Fourth Grade Research Project
Tornadoes vs. Hurricanes
What are we doing?
- similarities and differences
- how and where they form
- types of damage they cause
- examples of each
- ways to stay safe
- ways you can help victims
In your groups, you will conduct research and decide which storm system you want to place your focus. Then you will work together to write a script for a weather broadcast. You will need to decide who will be the reporter, who will be the correspondent in the field, and who will be the director. Each person has an important roll.
You will pretend that you are in the news studio of the Weather Channel talking to residents in an area expecting one of these meteorological events. The reporter will give the facts of the storm. The correspondent in the field will explain how to stay safe and how you can support victims of these events. The director makes sure that everyone is staying on task and that all information is provided.
We will have a weather day in the library to watch each group's report and share popcorn as we wait for our storms to arrive! Don't forget your rain boots!
