What We're Reading: VPL Book Chats
'Listen for the Lie' by Amy Tintera was recommended to me by a friend who often gives me great book recommendations. This one was no different! 'Listen for the Lie' is a twisty thriller that brings suspense to a small-town murder mystery with a bit of dark humor and romance thrown in. The story follows Lucy, largely suspected to have murdered her best friend several years ago. While the crime has not been solved, Ben, a charming true-crime podcaster comes to town and begins to dig into the case. Lucy is forced to confront her past, secrets in her family and hometown, and a growing attraction to Ben even as he builds a case against her. With several characters and motives, the story will keep you guessing until the end.

Going on a long road trip? The Libby App is perfect for long drives! Last weekend, I found myself driving 6 hours to visit my grandmother and nearly finished listening to Rachel Hawkin's 'The Wife Upstairs.' Hawkins tries her hand at loosely modernizing the classic 'Jane Eyre' into a fun, fast thriller that is perfect for long drives. It has all the domestic trimmings of a thriller: southern charm, huge mansions, wealthy cliques of neighborhood women that are snobbish, and two women that have disappeared. And we can't forget a fast and romantic relationship with a grieving widower! Check it out on the Libby app or at the library if you're in the mood for a fast thriller. Happy reading, friends! ~Heather
Friends of the Library Bookshelf Fundraiser
The Friends of the Vinton Public Library is raising funds to purchase new mobile shelving for our children's library! The shelving will give space for more books and will allow us to make room for even more kids during our programs! Stop into our Reading Room and check out our poster tracking the progress of the fundraiser. So far they've raised $5,000 toward their goal!! The Friends of the Vinton Public Library is a 501(c)3 organization operating under the Vinton Community Foundation. Payments can be sent to the library, with checks payable to Friends of the Vinton Public Library. #librarylife
Community Quilt Project
To encourage a sense of community and creativity, our library is holding a community quilt project. The blocks will be assembled into a finished quilt that will be auctioned off in the Spring/Summer of 2025. The proceeds from the auction will benefit future programming at the Vinton Public Library. We hope the project appeals to beginning quilters, experienced quilters, and everyone in between. Thank you for supporting our library!
- Submit a 9 1/2" X 9 1/2" unfinished quilt block
- Fabric available at the library
- Email library@vintonia.gov with any questions
- Team of quilters helping with the project
