What does Discovery Mean to You?
Dear Discovery Families,
We are preparing a presentation for the Mukilteo School Board that aims to showcase our school's strengths, acknowledge our challenges, and highlight our goals for the year. We believe that the personal stories of our dedicated staff, enthusiastic students, and engaged families are an important part of our story. We would be honored if you could take a moment to share your insights and experiences with us. Your story can help us paint a more vivid picture of our Discovery community and the positive impact it has on the lives of our students and families.
If you're willing to contribute, please click on the link below to share your story (and/or your student's story) or to schedule a brief interview with us. We appreciate your time and commitment to our school.
What does Discovery mean to you?
Thank you for being a valued part of our community.
In partnership,
Mrs. Koehnen

Bullying Prevention
The Second Step curriculum teaches children important skills for getting along with others and doing well in school. It also helps our school be a safe, respectful place where everyone can learn. The Second Step Bullying Prevention curriculum teaches our students how to:
• Recognize when bullying is happening, report bullying to a caring adult, and refuse to let bullying happen.
• Be a bystander who helps stop bullying.
• Support someone being bullied by standing up for that person and being kind and inclusive.
• Recognize, report, and refuse cyber bullying when they see or know about it happening.
What can you do to help? You can help by supporting your student in understanding what bullying is and what it isn't. We use the guidelines below to help teach students to recognize bullying:
Is it Bullying?
RUDE Behavior - When someone says or does something unintentionally hurtful and they do it once.
MEAN Behavior - When someone says or does something intentionally hurtful and they do it once.
BULLYING Behavior - When someone says or does something intentionally hurtful and they keep doing it - even when you tell them to stop or show them that you're upset.

District News
Milk Carton Shortage
The milk supplier for our district has notified us we will likely experience milk shortages beginning this month due to a shortage of milk cartons. Chocolate milk availability has already been impacted and the kind of white milk (1%, 2% or whole) may vary due to availability. This issue is nationwide and affecting many school districts and it could continue on and off throughout December and possibly beyond.
We have received permission from the state to serve cups of water as a meal component instead of milk. We are prioritizing milk in elementary student meals since older students can more easily serve themselves water from a central container.
