Mrs. Lee's Weekly Buzz!
Kindergarten
What we learned this week!
Language Arts: This week students focused on Baby animals that live in the grasslands. The big book for the week was a narrative non-fiction called "Animal Babies in the Grasslands." While answering the essential question of the week "What special animals live in the grasslands?" students learned about the specific baby animal names. Six new amazing words were introduced and discussed for the week: grassland, cub, pup, foal, calf and joey. Students learned about the main idea of a story by discussing through partner talk how ideas from the text give us information and one central idea. Students created their own riddle about an animal by drawing a picture and writing clues that the class used to guess their animal.
Phonics: Students learned all about the shape, sound, and use of the uppercase and lowercase letters S and T. They worked with these letters throughout the week as they practice manipulating and listening for their sounds throughout our weekly reading.
Sight Words: This week, students will learned sight words WE, MY, and LIKE. Students practiced reading, writing, and identifying these words in their weekly writing and reading activities.
Mathematics: Students continued to review work their mean teens up through number 20! They worked on their one to one correspondence, ten frames, building numbers, and recognizing number patterns. Students prepared for a mean teen assessment.
Social Studies: Its Election Week! Students had the opportunity to vote on Tuesday. The ballots were cast and the students tallied the votes. While the election was going on we discussed national symbols. We learned about past presidents, the statue of liberty, the liberty bell, and many more. We also learned how the American flag plays a roll in our country's history.
