Some outside fun!
Mrs. Mantel and Mrs. Hasselfeldt's class enjoyed a little fun outside. Many wanted to play color run while some enjoyed sharing their dance moves with each other.
Pleasurewoods Farm
3rd graders enjoyed a visit from Duane Munsterteiger. He owns Pleasurewoods Farm in Ogilvie, MN and we will be going on a field trip to his farm later this month.
Donuts!
We got all of our stars in our star jar, so we celebrated with a donut party.
Thank you Paradise Theater!
The 6th graders went to the Mora Theater as a reward for the Fun Run. They received free popcorn and soda while they enjoyed a movie. We send a big thank you to Paradise Theater for allowing us to come.
Cystic Fibrosis Awareness
May is Cystic Fibrosis Awareness month! Mrs. Hasselfeldt and Mrs. Mantel's class had the pleasure of learning about Cystic Fibrosis this week from a classmate and her family.
Linley Paquin, a 2nd grade student in Mrs. Hasselfelt's class, was born with Cystic Fibrosis. CF (Cystic Fibrosis) is a genetic disease that causes thick, sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive tract. This mucus can block airways, trap germs, and make lung infections more likely. CF can also prevent proteins needed for digestion from reaching the intestines, which decreases the body's ability to absorb nutrients from food.
With increased questions from classmates recently, Linley (and her parents) thought it might be a good idea to do a short classroom presentation to explain CF! Linley talked about different therapies that she does and medications that she takes to help keep her body healthy. She demonstrated her 'shake vest' and nebulizer, both of which help loosen and break up the mucus in her lungs! She also showed the students the amount of medication she needs to take daily to help her body function properly (21 pills).
The 2nd graders asked great questions and loved to be interactive with some of Linley's equipment! Thank you Linley and Kirstin for the great presentation and information.
Student Showcase
Student Showcase was a success! Thank you to all the helping hands that made this evening go smoothly. Students and families had a wonderful time.
Tug of War!
5th and 6th graders had fun playing tug of war for an MCA testing reward today. Way to go!

Summer EBT Program
Mora Schools will be participating in the new Summer EBT (S-EBT) program, which will help reduce child hunger by providing benefits to families with eligible school-age children for groceries throughout the summer.
Beginning this summer, the state of MN will provide grocery benefits to help families with eligible school-age children buy groceries during the summer. Learn more about this new program: http://www.fns.usda.gov/sebt/household.
Families who have received an approval letter or notice this past fall for income-eligible students (direct certified or categorically eligible) in school year 2023-2024 for free or reduced price (FRP) school meals are automatically eligible for S-EBT and no further action is needed.
Families who have not received an approval letter or notice in school year 2023-2024 may complete an Application for Educational Benefits if they suspect they qualify. The school will verify eligibility and contact households with an approval or denial letter.
Applications for Educational Benefits my be found on our webpage at: https://www.moraschools.org/page/nutritiondepartment.
Contact MN DHS with questions or concerns.

Summer Food Service Program
Summer is right around the corner...
We wanted to share a share an important resource that could benefit many families during the summer break—the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).
The SFSP is dedicated to ensuring that children in our community and surrounding areas have access to nutritious meals even when school is not in session. This program is a fantastic opportunity for children to continue receiving healthy meals throughout the summer at no cost.
You can find locations where meals are served by visiting the USDA Summer Meals Site Finder. Just click on the following link: USDA Summer Meals Site Finder.
This tool is easy to use and can help you locate the nearest meal service sites based on your address. The sites are set up in local and surrounding communities, ensuring that help is never too far away.
Please feel free to share this information with others who might benefit from knowing about the availability of free meals during the summer. It’s essential that we spread the word to ensure that no child goes hungry during the school break.

It’s that time of year still! Here at the Mora Public Schools, we are still seeing tons of common school-age illnesses. So parents, please be mindful when sending your student to school. Always try to make sure they are feeling their best, so they can be present and ready to learn for the day. Most of the school-age illnesses are harmless, but they can still spread like rapid fire. Some of those common illnesses seen include: common cold, stomach flu, strep throat, pink eye and influenza, just to name a few. We do have covid tests in the health office if needed. We do ask that you keep your student home for at least 24 hours for any illnesses that include fever over 100.0, vomiting and diarrhea. If you ever have any questions, or are wanting any more information please feel free to reach out to the health office staff. The best way to prevent illnesses from spreading is by washing your hands!!
Thank you so much for all you do and helping to keep our students happy and healthy!
