The Scoop

"Every Child, Every Day"
Weekly Welcome
Let's Go Cooper!!!
We have wrapped up our IReady testing and I can't tell you how incredible it has been talking to our students about the results! The conversations are powerful because our students really are aware of their strengths and challenges! The students, whether their scores went up or down, have all displayed a growth mindset and are truly invested in their own learning! (NOTE: We have past our achievement level, as a school, from where we were at the end of last school year!!!! Let's GOOOO!)
Lastly, as the end of the trimester is here, please continue to maintain conversations with your child's teacher about ways that our partnership can maximize learning. Let's keep that pace of learning up all the way through the last day!!!
Have a great weekend and an even better week!!

What is a Data Dive Session (aka "why don't my kids have school")????
Monday is a day in which our staff get together to look at all the data collected from the previous trimester/intervention window in efforts to make a game plan for the next trimester. Intervention groups will be created to address the individual needs of our students in the areas of academic, social emotional, and enrichment. These interventions take place during W.I.N. time and are 20 minutes in duration each day of the week. Professional learning and collaboration will take place throughout the day to ensure that our staff is equipped with the knowledge and skills to continue to offer a first class learning experience for our kids!

Character Trait of the Month: Mindfulness
Activities for your Family:
Here are a few activities parents can do to help their children with mindfulness:
- Teach simple techniques like “belly breathing” or “5-finger breathing.”
- Use visuals like blowing up a pretend balloon or smelling a flower and blowing out a candle.
- Encourage gratitude by asking, “What was the best part of your day?”
- Use guided mindfulness stories or calming music before sleep.
3. Use Mindful Movement
- Practice gentle yoga or stretching.
- Take nature walks while focusing on the senses (e.g., what they see, hear, and feel).
4. Encourage Mindful Eating
- Teach them to eat slowly and notice the texture, taste, and smell of their food.
- Make meals a time to be present rather than rushed.
5. Create a Calm-Down Corner
- Have a cozy space with pillows, books, and sensory tools where they can self-regulate.
- Teach them to visit this space when they feel overwhelmed.
6. Teach Emotional Awareness
- Use a “feelings chart” to help them name their emotions.
- Model mindfulness by pausing before reacting to stress.
7. Engage in Mindful Listening
- Play a game where they close their eyes and name the sounds they hear.
- Listen to calming music or nature sounds together.
8. Practice Gratitude
- Start a gratitude jar where they write or draw things they are thankful for.
- Share one thing you’re both grateful for at the end of the day.
9. Use Guided Mindfulness Apps or Videos
- Explore kid-friendly mindfulness apps
- Watch short mindfulness videos on YouTube together.
10. Encourage Journaling or Drawing
- Let them express their feelings through art or a simple gratitude journal.
- Provide prompts like, “Draw something that made you happy today.”
11. Teach Positive Affirmations
- Help them repeat calming statements like, “I am calm, I am strong.”
- Write affirmations on sticky notes around their room.
12. Model Mindfulness in Daily Life
- Show them how to take deep breaths when feeling stressed.
- Practice being present with them during conversations without distractions.
