The Scoop
"Every Child, Every Day"
Weekly Welcome
The holiday season is here and, believe it or not, we are into our last week of learning before the long break!!! The energy will be a little higher in the building next week and the teachers have made some adjustments to incorporate more movement into their lessons. Nonetheless, it will be important to maintain our focus and continue to work hard at winning every moment. Let's do this Cooper!
Please don't forget that Report Cards will be available to view on December 18, 2024 on Parent Connect (goal is to have 100% of the report cards viewed by a parent/guardian)! Reviewing your child’s report card is a valuable opportunity to celebrate their progress and identify areas for growth. The report card is a great conversation starter for a parent/guardian and their child. The overall goal of this conversation should be to acknowledge the progress and celebrate the hard work that has taken place during the first 1/3 of the school year! The other goal is to involve the child in identifying the obstacles and creating a plan together to overcome those obstacles.
Have you made plans for the break to keep your child's mind (and body) active? Keeping their mind active over the break will allow for our students to pick up where they left off, limiting any type of learning loss that potentially could happen over the extended break.
Have a great weekend and, as always, feel free to call or email if you have any questions. Have a wonderful week, stay safe, and cherish each moment with your children!
We hope that each of you have a great weekend!

Updates:
Hard Work Beats Talent
We have noticed that students are either shutting down when things get difficult or, at times, not maintaining the focus to complete their work during the time allotted in class (aka off-task behavior); therefore, they have "homework". The ability to maintain a strong work ethic, especially when things get difficult, is a skill that will be life long and is one that will take our students to the next level. Creating good work habits (independently and collaboratively) and increasing academic grit will be a large focus as we move through the 2nd Trimester. Hard work will always win over talent!!! Thank you for taking this journey with us!!!

Sixth Grade Camp: ATTENTION 6th GRADE PARENTS!!!
Thank you to everyone who sold pizza coupons for 6th grade camp. So many students earned a good portion of their camp money already! Pizza coupons were sent home with students Friday, 12-6-24 by homeroom teachers. We appreciate everyone's involvement and how smoothly it all went!
Please reach out to Mrs. Goodhue via email (dgoodhue@livoniapublicschools.org) with any questions about payments or chaperoning! Let's go camping!! Camp Slide Show

Character Trait of the Month: Integrity
Activities for your Family:
1. Create an "Integrity Challenge"
- Activity: Over a week, encourage your child to note down or share instances where they demonstrated integrity, such as telling the truth, helping someone without being asked, or admitting a mistake.
- Reflection: At the end of the week, discuss their actions and how they made them feel. Reinforce the idea that integrity builds trust and self-respect.
- Purpose: Helps children identify and celebrate moments of integrity in everyday life.
2. Family Honesty Game
- Activity: Play a game like "Two Truths and a Lie," where each family member says three statements (two true, one false). Afterward, discuss why honesty and being truthful are important in building strong relationships.
- Discussion: Transition the fun into a deeper conversation about why trust is a key part of family and friendships.
- Purpose: Reinforces the value of truthfulness in a lighthearted way.
3. "Integrity in Action" Journal
- Activity: Encourage your child to keep a journal where they record:
- A decision they made that required honesty or courage.
- A situation where they saw integrity in others.
- Something they found challenging but chose the right path.
- Parent Involvement: Review the journal together weekly and discuss how these actions reflect their values.
- Purpose: Promotes self-awareness and reflection on ethical behavior.

Tidbits for Success:
Preparation:
- Begin to prep your child for school by making sure that routines are established.
- Bedtime routines (read a book, cut off screen time at least 1 hour prior to bedtime, etc.)
- Students can begin entering the building at 8:15 am (please do not drop off students any earlier as there will not be any adult supervision prior to that time).
- How will your child get to and from school?
- Bus: get to know the bus letter/number, bus stop, arrival/departure time.
- Dropping off in a car?
- Know the traffic pattern and the door that your child will enter through for school.
- Is your child walking?
- Know the location and door number that your child will be entering and leaving through.
