August 30, 2024

Happy Friday Chisholm Families!
As we approach the final week before Spring Break, it’s hard to believe how quickly time has flown this semester! The students and staff have seemed to settle back into a 5-day a week routine after all the snow days in February. With daylight savings scheduled to begin this weekend, I'm excited to have more daylight in the evenings.
This morning at Charge Up we kicked off our annual Penny Wars to raise money for the Common Thread. This year's Common Thread recipient is No Boundaries International, which is a faith-based, trauma-informed organization that connects those that want to help with those that need help the most. The money we raise will be added to the totals of all the elementary and middle school fundraisers and it occurs during Edmond Memorial's Swine Week Fundraiser. Students will be able to add their money to Thunder, OSU and OU jars through next Thursday, which will give us time on next Friday to announce our total at Charge Up.
This coming Tuesday, Memorial is hosting a Swine Week Family Night starting at 4:30 where students and families can come learn more about the history of Swine Week. They will have food trucks on site during this evening. There is also a flyer added below outlining this event.
We also have some dress up days next week to also correspond with this fundraising week, which have been added below to this newsletter (Monday is sports team dress up).
The Edmond Creative is a monthly newsletter that provides an update for Edmond Public Schools' Fine Arts programs. This can be used as a resource to discover what great things are happening, and provide information for administrators and fine arts educators throughout the month. Please click here to access this newsletter.
Fitness Follies - This coming Thursday, our 2nd grade students will be presenting their Fitness Follies in the evening to parents. We have these shows broken into 2 performances to help with seating and parking. Both of these performances will take place in the gym.
- 6:00 Fitness Follies - Students in Steedman, Jungers, and Kelly
- 7:00 Fitness Follies - Students in Boyle, Morgan, and Rose
The March PTO meeting is scheduled for this coming Monday starting at 9:00 in the cafeteria. If you are unable to be with us for this meeting the minutes from the meeting will be added to future newsletters.
Have a great weekend!
Thomas Higdon
Swine Week and the Common Thread - Edmond Memorials annual fundraiser, Swine Week, should be ramping up in the next few weeks as we get towards the end of January. A flyer has been added below from Memorial High School outlining some events that our students can participate in over the coming weeks. This year's Swine Week recipient is The Comeback Kid Society. This group provides assistance to young students residing in foster group homes, juvenile detentions, and treatment centers.
The Common Thread is the Edmond Middle School and Elementary fundraiser that supports a different organization and runs at the same time as the high school philanthropic weeks. This year's Common Thread recipient is No Boundaries International, which is a faith-based, trauma-informed organization that connects those that want to help with those that need help the most. Our fundraising event for the common thread will be our annual penny wars, which will kick off the week before spring break (Friday, March 7 - Thursday, March 14).
Arrival Drop-off Procedure Reminders - Please help us in making sure students safely to school by following these procedures:
- If you’d like to stay in your car, enter the drop-off using the entrance by our school marquee. Students can exit via passenger side of car using the sidewalk and entering the building towards our front doors. Do not drop students off in the west parking lot.
- If you don't want to use the drop-off line, you may park your vehicle and walk your students through the parking lot to one of the crosswalks. Please wait for the duty teacher to tell you when to cross. Do not allow your child to walk in the parking lot unattended by an adult.
- Do not use one of the handicapped parking spaces without proper identification on display.
- If you arrive after 8:45 and the duty teachers have entered the building, please plan to park and walk your child into the building to check them in using the kiosk by our office.
Dismissal Reminders
At the end of the day, we ask that early checkouts happen before 3:00. If your student is a 33rd Street Walker, they should live in Old Farm or Thornbrook. If your student is a Spring Hill Walker, they should live in the Springhill Neighborhood or the subsequent neighborhoods that are too close to receive bus transportation. Students that ride a bus will load from the gym once their bus arrives at school. If you need specifics on bus numbers and times please click this link, which will ask you to fill out your address.
Car Riders will need to use the Red Hangtag, which was given out at Meet the Teacher. (If you were unable to attend Meet the Teacher, our office is open 8-3:30 on Wednesday August 14.) Please be sure to make sure this tag is visible to the person out front entering the number by our marquee. Once their number has been entered, students will come out of the building by the first grade hallway and be positioned by one of the concrete bollards numbered 1-6 (please be sure to stay out far enough aways from the bollards so your car door doesn't get dinged). If you don't have your hangtag, you will need to pull in and check your student out from the office. There is a button below that goes through the Car Rider procedures.
