The Big Two
Most books we read can fit into one of two categories.
Fiction is a story about imaginary people or events. An example of fiction is The Lord of the Rings.
Nonfiction is a composition about real people or events. An example of nonfiction is Booker T. Washington's autobiography Up From Slavery.
Prose Fiction
There are many different types of fiction. Here are just a few!
- Animals stories
- Fairy Tale
- Fiction Adventure
- Historical Fiction
- Mystery
- Novel
- Science Fiction
While these settings, plots, and characters could be based on real life things, the story itself is make believe!
Prose Nonfiction
Just like fiction, there are several different types of nonfiction writing.
- Biography
- Autobiography
- Textbooks
- Research
While nonfiction can include excerpts of fiction or people's opinions, they are predominately based on facts.
