Procedure Reminders
As the new year begins, here are some reminders about school procedures that will help things run smoothly and safely at NFHS!
Absences & Eligibility ✅
Remember that students must be present in school for the entire school day, arriving no later than second period of the day, to be eligible to participate in sports or extracurricular activities such as theater. If a student must leave school for a medical appointment, they must return with a note from the doctor in hand.
Personal Devices 📱
Remember that students may not have personal devices such as smartphones, AirPods, etc. in class, in hallways during class, or in bathrooms. They may only have them in study hall rooms (not hallways or learning neighborhoods).
Medications 💊
All medications that students take must be reported to the school nurse. If students are carrying prescription medications or other controlled substances, they will be subject to disciplinary consequences. Clearly, we cannot have these types of substances floating around the school! Call or email the nurse, Ms. Delcourt, with any questions.
Student Identification 🔒
Students must present their school ID card if they are late to school, and must have their school identification card displayed on their lanyard or their backpack at all times.
Additionally, students may use ONLY the main entrance when entering the school during the school day. Students are subject to disciplinary consequences for violating any of the above rules.
Together In Wellness: Underage Cannabis Use
Use of cannabis for those 21 and over was legalized in CT in 2021. Legal for adults does not mean safe for kids. Be in the Know is the new CT education campaign to help residents understand the laws, to protect kids and to reduce potential harms of cannabis use.
In 2023, most New Fairfield High School students reporting not using an electronic cigarette or vape. However, of those said they were currently using, 63.4% reported vaping cannabis or marijuana in their vape.*
Using cannabis before the age of 25 can lead to issues such as:
Difficulty thinking and problem-solving
Problems with memory and learning
Decreases in sports performance and athletic ability
Poor coordination
Difficulty paying attention
Increased irritability or aggression
Lack of motivation which can lead to poor performance at school or work
Visit beintheknowct.org to learn more and for tips on how to talk to your kids about potential risks.
