EMPATHY is the CMS Focus for JUNE!
Character Focus of the Month: Empathy
At Cinnaminson Middle School, our character focus for the month is Empathy—the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. We’re encouraging students to look beyond their own perspectives, listen actively, and show kindness in their daily interactions. Through classroom discussions, activities, and schoolwide moments of reflection, students are learning that empathy builds stronger friendships, reduces conflict, and helps create a more supportive school community. We invite families to continue these conversations at home and celebrate the many ways our students show care and compassion each day.
IMPORTANT UPDATES
Our Website is Moving to ParentSquare
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to share that our district and school websites will be transitioning to a new platform effective this week: ParentSquare. This move is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance communication, accessibility, and engagement between our schools and families.
Why ParentSquare?
ParentSquare provides a unified platform where families can receive school updates, view calendars, communicate with staff, and access essential resources—all in one place. This transition will help streamline how information is shared and ensure it reaches you quickly and efficiently.
What to Expect:
Our current district and school websites are now redirecting to our new ParentSquare.
You will still be able to access all important announcements, documents, and contact information.
Training materials and tutorials will be provided to help you get familiar with the new layout and features.
We are confident that this change will improve your experience and make it easier to stay connected with your child’s school. Thank you for your continued support as we work to enhance our communication tools.
If you have any questions or need assistance during this transition, please do not hesitate to contact your school office.
Warmer Weather Dress Code Reminders
As the weather becomes warmer, we have a few reminders for student dress:
- Students' apparel should not be sheer, brief, low-cut or revealing above or below the waist. Extremely short shorts and midriff shirts are not permitted. As a general rule, shorts, skirts, etc. should reach the tip of the extended fingers when the arms are hanging normally at one’s side.
- Shirt straps must be at least two finger-widths wide.
- Students must wear undergarments, but not as outer garments. Undergarments must not be visible.
- Students must not wear head coverings anywhere in the building (exceptions made for religious requirements). All head coverings are to be removed immediately upon entering the building, and must be kept in lockers for the duration of the school day.
If a student arrives at school in unacceptable apparel, a phone call will be made home and they will be offered alternative clothes from the nurse's office. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
📚 Library Book Returns – Important Reminder 📚
As we near the end of the school year, we’re asking students to return any library books that are no longer needed for classwork. Returning books on time helps ensure that all students have access to our library’s resources.
For Parents of 8th Grade Students:
Please note that any unreturned or lost library books must be returned or paid for before students move on to high school. Outstanding book notices will follow students to CHS if not resolved.
Thank you for your support in helping us maintain a well-stocked and accessible school library!

Tick Talk
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As the weather warms up and families spend more time outdoors, it’s important to be aware of ticks and how to prevent tick bites. Ticks can carry diseases like Lyme disease, but with a few simple steps, you can keep your children and family safe.
🕷 What Are Ticks and Where Are They Found?
Ticks are tiny parasites found in tall grass, brush, and wooded areas—even in your own yard. They do not jump or fly, but cling to people or pets who brush past vegetation, then attach to the skin to feed on blood.
In our region, the Black-legged (deer) tick, American dog tick, and Lone Star tick are common—and can spread diseases like Lyme disease.
New Jersey ranks 5th in the U.S. for Lyme disease, with nearly half of state cases occurring in June and July. This is a critical time to take precautions.
✅ How to Protect Your Family
Avoid Tick Habitats:
Stick to clear paths and trails
Avoid sitting on the ground or in dense vegetation
Keep your yard mowed and brush-free
Dress Smart:
Wear light-colored clothing to easily spot ticks
Tuck pants into socks and shirts into pants
Wear long sleeves and pants outdoors
Use Tick Repellent:
Use EPA-approved repellents like DEET or picaridin on exposed skin
If also using sunscreen, apply sunscreen first, then repellent
Apply permethrin to clothing, shoes, and outdoor gear—never on skin
Parents should apply repellents to children, avoiding hands, eyes, and mouth
Natural options (e.g., essential oils) may help—check for skin sensitivity before use
Protect Your Pets:
Use vet-prescribed tick treatments regularly
Check pets for ticks after outdoor time
Avoid letting pets sleep in beds or on furniture
Shower Promptly:
Showering within 2 hours of being outdoors helps wash away ticks
It also increases chances of spotting attached ticks early
🔍 Perform Daily Tick Checks
After time outside—even in your own yard—check yourself and your child carefully:
Use a mirror for hard-to-see areas
Focus on:
Hairline, scalp, neck, and behind ears
Armpits, waistband, groin, and behind knees
Between fingers and toes
Tip: Ticks can be as small as a poppy seed and may look like freckles or specks of dirt!
🏥 What to Do If Bitten by a Tick
Remove the tick immediately with fine-tipped tweezers
Grasp it as close to the skin as possible and pull straight upward
Do not twist, squeeze, or apply substances (e.g., Vaseline or heat)
Wash the bite area and your hands with soap and water
You can save the tick in rubbing alcohol in a sealed container for identification
Watch for symptoms over the next few weeks:
Rash (bull’s-eye or solid red)
Fever
Fatigue
Muscle/joint pain
Rashes don’t always appear at the bite site—check the whole body
If symptoms appear, contact your doctor and mention the tick bite
