Principal's message
Need to know info:
- Student, Parent & Teacher Conferences are coming up for the week of Thanksgiving, invitations were sent out last week via email from your child's Squad Leader! It's not too late to sign up! We'd love to see you!
- Conference dates and times will be Monday, 11/25 12-2:30 & Tuesday 12-2:30 and 5:30-7:30pm. Please be sure to sign up in advance whereas drop-ins will not be possible!
- Winter Sports Registrations are OPEN NOW! Please sign up to participate in winter sports- more information below!
- Term One grades will close on November 22, 2024 and report cards will be released after Thanksgiving. ONE WEEK TO GO!
- Students have been needed reminders about appropriate language choices, affirmations of kind and polite language are much appreciated! In today's assembly we discussed hate speech and our commitment to each other to not tolerate hateful and hurtful language.
- A group of 22 student leaders will travel to Bridgewater State University's Massachusetts Aggression Reduction Center on November 22nd, for peer leadership training. We are so proud of our nominated students who represent our community each and every day by living our core values!
- Picture Retake Day will be 11/19. More info below! School photos went out this week and retakes should be brought in for exchange.

The Online Community Forum for the Middle-High School Building project originally scheduled for this Thursday November 21 has been moved to Tuesday December 3 from 7-9 PM. During this forum members of the design team and school building committee will present updated options for the middle-high school project. Viewers will be able to submit questions for the team.

Nice to know info:
- Congratulations to Matthew Daricilar who is the band student of the week!
- Congratulations to Emma Genovese for placing 2nd in the Division 3C State Track meet and advancing to the D3 State Championship.
- Also, congratulations to Myles Genovese for placing 11th at the Junior Olympic New England Championship and qualifying to run in the Regional Championship in New York.
- Thank you to all who participated in the Student Council’s Fall Pumpkin Design Contest! Your entries were all very creative and festive! Congratulations to the following students who were selected as winners for their grade:

- Mrs. Deb Hickey will be our MS Drama Club advisor.
- Baking Club, Student Council, Kindness Club, Chess & Checkers, Anime/Manga all meet during the school day, at lunchtime!
Information about Student, Parent & Teacher Conferences
Millis Middle School will be hosting parent/guardian conferences on two dates this year. Conferences will INCLUDE students with a caregiver and a teacher (their squad leader). Conferences will be approximately 15 minutes each and will cover all content areas with the Squad leader and your child. The purpose and focus of this year's conferences are STUDENT AGENCY and family engagement. We are hoping to empower students to speak about their learning and to reflect on goals and ways that we adults can support and advocate for them. Invitations to sign up were sent from your child’s squad leader midweek. The dates and times for the conferences are as follows:
Monday, November 25:
Parent conferences from 12:00pm-2:30pm (1/2 day for students - classes end at 10:55am)
Tuesday, November 26:
Parent conferences from 12:00pm-2:30pm (1/2 day for students - classes end at 10:55am)
Parent conferences from 5:30pm-7:30pm

***IMPORTANT***
- Sports fees are $234
- Family cap is 4 payments totaling $936 per academic year
- Self-funded and co-op sports do NOT count towards family cap (golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, alpine ski, cheer, ice hockey, etc). Any family who has submitted paperwork and qualifies for free/reduced lunch is still responsible for the normal user fee ($234) for any self-funded sports programs Millis offers. Co-ops hosted by other districts could have different requirements. Please contact the athletic dept w/ any questions.

PowerSchool Resources
All students and caregivers have been provided with PowerSchool logins and passwords. PowerSchool provides realtime access to your child's academic progress, grades and comments.

Riverside Mobile Crisis Support

As we welcome a new school year, we want to emphasize the importance of mental health and well-being. Returning to school can bring about a mix of emotions—excitement, anxiety, anticipation, and more. We know for some students the beginning of a new school year can come with difficulties, including depression, anxiety, school avoidance and complex emotional and behavioral issues. The team at Riverside Mobile Crisis Intervention would like to remind everyone that we are here for all students no matter the level of concern; we are available to see people 24 hours a day anywhere in the community: at home, school, or our office. Please share our information with caretakers who may need help navigating these complex situations at home, and we are available to come into the school for in-the-moment assessment to help partner with you in navigating challenging events. Spread Holiday Cheer and Support Millis DECA!
This holiday season, bring some festive fun to your neighborhood while supporting a great cause! For just $30, you can have cheerful Elf Lawn Ornaments placed in someone's yard for three nights. Each elf brings a touch of holiday magic and is part of a special fundraising effort to support Millis DECA students.
Your donation helps us continue providing valuable leadership, career development, and entrepreneurial opportunities for future business leaders. It's a simple, fun way to make someone's home more festive and make a big impact on our community!
How it works:
Make a $30 donation to DECA. (checks made out to Millis High School or venmo @Yvonne-FitzGerald)
We’ll place adorable Elf Lawn Ornaments in the yard of your choice for three nights. We will deliver to Millis, Medway, and Medfield.
They can enjoy the holiday cheer as people marvel at the festive sight!
