12/20/2024 December Winter Holiday Break Edition
Happy December EMS families,
The Christmas Season is here. We have had a fun and spirit filled December at EMS. Thank you for helping students to display their spirit and either dress up or just be a part of the activities. This helps build the positive culture that we are creating here at the middle school. We want every person that walks our halls to feel the positivity and pride that we have in being an Eastwood Eagle. We hope that this bleeds into a sense of pride outside of the school that builds our community.
I want to recognize the continued help and support that has been flowing into our building this Holiday Season for those less fortunate. Our community has truly stepped up as we gathered over 850 items for our local food pantry through our NJHS canned food drive. We provided gifts for over 30 Christmas Angels from throughout the community, and we were able to collect clothing and resources for some families that had fallen on hard times and circumstances through no other reason than tough situations. We at EMS are very proud to be at the center of these projects to help gather resources and items, and give back to our community. These examples that we present will hopefully shape the minds of our students to grow and make our community an even better place in the future. Let's continue to build great kids, that take care of each other. That's the Eagle Way.
We all know that this time of year may be difficult for some. This Holiday Season please reach out to anyone that may be struggling for any reason. Unfortunate circumstances, unable to be around loved ones, or even those that just need a friend are all reasons that can lead to this time of year being very difficult for people and families. Let them know they have love and support from those around them. If you have concerns for a family or even a student, please let us know.
I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. It is truly a joyous time to come together and celebrate the Holidays.
Thank you

REPEATS:
Remind 101
With the beginning of the winter season this is a reminder that the district uses Remind 101 to notify families of closings, delays, transportation information, and other emergencies. Please assure that you have signed up or have up-to-date information in your account. There are instructions on the school's website under the Parent tab on how to sign up!
Counselor's Corner
Mix it Up at Lunch Day
MIX-IT-UP AT LUNCH DAY ENCOURAGES STUDENTS TO MOVE OUT OF THEIR COMFORT ZONES AND CONNECT WITH SOMEONE NEW OVER LUNCH. WHEN STUDENTS INTERACT WITH THOSE WHO ARE DIFFERENT FROM THEM, BIASES AND MISPERCEPTIONS CAN FALL AWAY. THEIR TEACHERS CAME DOWN AND JOINED THEM IN THE GAMES AND THE FESTIVITIES. OUR HOPE IS TO CONTINUE TO BUILD AN INCLUSIVE AND WELCOMING SCHOOL COMMUNITY. WE HOPE THEY HAD FUN AT OUR ANNUAL MIX-IT-UP LUNCH DAY!

The Eastwood Middle School "Friends of Rachelle" Club, to follow up on our Rachelle's Challenge presentation, are learning to crochet. They are hoping to donate a mini crocheted octopi to the Toledo NIC Unit. The F.O.R. group got together and learned to crochet, and will hopefully bring a smile to a family who's baby may be in medical distress. It is one of many ways that the EMS F.O.R. Club is trying to spread kindness to our community. The video to learn crocheting is attached here. Click on the picture.
