Lutherville Lab Report
What's gone down & what's coming up at the leopards' lair.

January 31, 2025
We had another great week of learning and growing at Lutherville as we started the second half of the school year! One highlight for the students was certainly another awesome Skate Night hosted by the PTA on Tuesday. This week we were able to host an Executive Director of Schools in classrooms on Monday, and in reflection he reaffirmed the consistent high quality teaching and learning we see daily here at LL. And on Wednesday our teaching faculty engaged in professional learning focused on refining instructional strategies and interventions to continue to improve how we serve our students. Mid-day we were treated to yet another lovely lunch from our PTA Hospitality Committee. Our gratitude goes out to all who contributed and organized. It is a treat to feel so well cared for.
In the spirit of grounding in for the second half of the school year, I'd like to take a few lines in this week's newsletter to reaffirm some of our commitments and values at Lutherville Lab.
We are committed to serving each child in our school to the best of our ability. We urgently want to see students grow toward the best versions of themselves and grow a strong foundation of skills. This is what we mean by "Minds On."
We are compelled to see and celebrate children for the "wholeness" of who they are as human beings. The diversity of our community and the range of perspectives and experiences within our classrooms is a collective strength we treasure and celebrate. We strive to honor that and do small things with great love. This is what we mean by "Whole Hearts."
We are committed to student protection, safety, and inclusion because it should be the expectation of our shared humanity and because it creates the conditions in which students can learn well. We strive to hold ourselves to an ethic of care in all that we do. And anything we do, we want to do well. This is what we mean by "ALL IN!"
Next week we have a chance to lean into much of that spirit with a Kindness Spirit Week! Please see the details below.
In partnership,
-Mr. McComb

Climate Survey
If you have not already, please take just a couple of minutes to complete the BCPS Climate Survey (available in 20 languages). This gives you an opportunity to offer feedback on both Lutherville Lab and the system as a whole. Getting your feedback is really important to us here at school to help us gauge strengths and growth opportunities. Thank you for your time and input!
Mrs. Zagurski leads teachers in grades 3-5 through an exploration of how the complexity of skills for working with fractions unfolds for students across grade levels during our Wednesday professional development.

Kids Heart Challenge
This month we will be, once again, participating in the “Kids Heart Challenge” to help raise money for the American Heart Association.
Students participating will join our “Kids Heart Challenge” special event during the school day in late February and get moving with fun activities, learn about keeping their hearts and brains healthy and feel great about helping others. Not only will you be helping fight heart disease and stroke (the No. 1 and No. 2 killers worldwide), but participants can earn thank-you gifts. We appreciate all your help and please scan the QR code for more information and to join our school. Please submit donations to the American Heart Association by February 21st.
