Course Registration for the 2025-26 School Year
Welcome to the 2025-2026 course registration process. We look forward to helping your student register for their 2025-26 school year. Registration is very important as we hire teachers based on registration selections made by students and families during the registration process. Please make your selections carefully. No changes in selections will be approved once this form is turned in.
Our course offerings are divided into three categories: Core classes, required electives, and choice electives. Our core classes are in the areas of math, science, social studies, and English language arts. There are options for advanced self-selection in English Language Arts and Science. Students in these courses can expect advanced level work, and occasionally more homework. A district-approved placement process is used to determine a student’s math course. These courses all meet every day, all year for 1 class period. Our required electives are in the areas of art and physical education and these courses meet every other day all year with the exception of 8th grade music which meets every day. Choice electives are where students can explore a variety of courses to start to determine areas of interest.
When making course selections, we encourage middle school students to begin to reflect on their interests and skills. Self-reflection is a skill that is developed over time and sets the foundation for student choice in high school. Students and families may self-select an advanced-level course in the areas of English Language Arts (ELA) and Science. Your student’s current teacher(s) are a resource for conversations about how to match your student’s unique skills and abilities to the course offerings in Anoka-Hennepin.
Some students need extra support during their school day. Students who need additional reading or math support may be removed from an elective. Recent READ Act legislation requires that any student not achieving grade-level proficiency in reading must be provided intervention until the student reaches grade level. Some students on IEPs or who receive ML services and require additional educational support will be placed in appropriate courses.
