Blue Valley Northwest
Principal's Newsletter - December 6, 2024
Dear Husky Families,
Thank you for helping us kick off a fantastic first week back after Thanksgiving break! The enthusiasm and commitment demonstrated by our students and staff have made a big difference during this busy time.
With finals just 7 school days away, I also urge our students to prioritize their tasks and plan ahead to feel prepared and confident as finals approach. Additionally, remember to:
Stay active, even if it’s just a short walk or stretch, to relieve stress and boost your energy.
Get plenty of sleep, as rest is essential for staying focused and retaining what you’ve learned.
Finally, as we approach the weekend, I encourage everyone to take some time to rest, recharge, and focus on self-care. Whether that means connecting with loved ones, enjoying a favorite activity, or simply taking a moment to unwind, these small breaks can help us all show up as our best selves at BVNW each day.
Thank you for everything you do to make BVNW such a special place. Wishing you a good weekend!
Sincerely,
Leah Vomhof
BVNW Principal

Athletics/Activites:
Message From the AD
Winter sports are here! Lower level wrestling (Boys and Girls) competed at BVSW on Wednesday. Varsity Boy wrestlers are competing in Spring Hill today and the Varsity Girls are competing tomorrow! Our Jamboree was successful on both the boys and girls side. The boys team is competing in a tournament in Hays this weekend. They won last night and play today at 4:45 vs Sunrise Christian Academy. Our girls travel to Washburn Rural tonight to kick off their season. As always, tickets can be purchased for all home events using GoFan: https://gofan.co/app/school/KS18098. Boys swim begins their season on Tuesday at BVSW.
REMINDER: Per our EKL Rule, anytime varsity is competing a gate will be charged for the entire evening. For example, if C team plays at 4:00 and varsity plays at 7:00, there will be a gate. You will have to pay to get into the C team game. Again, this is an EKL Rule.
Bowling:
Tryouts are December 9-12 (boys and girls are split). In order to try out you MUST have a physical on file.
Contact Coach Derks with any questions!
Message from the Activities Department
Beginning in January, we are going to recognize two activities students of the month. Watch for those celebrations in this newsletter and on social media. We have students doing amazing things in our activities programs, and we want to celebrate them!
Celebrations (We realize this is not a comprehensive list of everything going on around Husky Nation, but we’ll try to share some highlights each week!)
Our KAY Club was recently honored by the Kansas State High School Activities Association with the Gold Award, the highest award for community service. Congratulations to our KAY Club members! Their sponsor, Linda Strieby, was also recognized for 16 years of leadership in our program. Thank you, Mrs. Strieby!
This year the district became affiliated with the National Technical Honor Society, which recognizes students who excel in Career and Technical Education courses. BVNW initiated our first members this week at a district ceremony. Congratulations to the first class of inductees!
Congratulations to our cheer and dance programs who competed at the KSHSAA state competition the weekend before break. Our cheerleaders took second place! We are very proud of both our programs!
Our Orchestra’s winter concert is next Thursday, December 12th, at 7 PM in the PAC. Come and enjoy the beautiful music!
