CELEBRATION:
We had great participation and feedback from our September 22nd learning! We offered a variety of options, some geared for new teachers needing foundation and some that were different for those that are returning ESE teachers. Thank you to all that filled our rooms with great collaboration and an open mind to learning new ideas and strategies!
INFORMATION:
During Learning Walks this month, there were requests for a document that illustrates what should be seen when going into supported or separate classroom settings for ESE. You will find the information that was provided to administrators beneath this section. Please reach out to Larissa Silfa-Velez (PK-5th) or Justin Bruscato Douglas (6th-Transition) for any questions you may have regarding these documents.
INFORMATION:
The Down Syndrome Foundation of Florida is hosting their annual Breakfast of Champions on October 21st. Breakfast of Champions is to help teachers become an expert in teaching individuals with Down syndrome. They will discuss medical challenges that people with Down syndrome may have faced in their early lives, and the effects. They will focus on the importance of inclusion in the classroom and share statistics on how it affects all aspects of their lives. They will provide strategies on how to handle disruptive behavior and what it could mean. They will show the potential that all people with Down syndrome have and the important roles we have as educators to help facilitate their future. They will provide tools to use in the classroom.
