CDS First Program
March 10, 2023
From the Director
Hello First Program Community,
Just one more week until Spring Break!
Parents have asked for the weekly newsletter to be sent out via email and via Seesaw — will do!
We'd like to introduce that there is a person who has been appointed by the school to advise the cafeteria on cafeteria related matters — Ms. Lee will volunteer on a regular basis. She is an experienced educator who has previously worked as a school teacher. In addition to her teaching background, she has also lived in Canada for several years. As a volunteer for the cafeteria, she will play a role in selecting the menus that will be served to our students. Welcome, Ms. Lee!
Thank you to our FP PA Council Members for attending our Quarter 3 Council meeting last Monday.
I would like to provide an update regarding our FP PA Council. We are very thankful to have parents volunteer to support our school, which ultimately benefits our students. This message serves to share our appreciation for current and past Council Members, and to update the community regarding recent PA Council changes.
To provide information and transparency regarding the vacant roles as well as how the roles were filled, please note that it was similar to how we do it each year — interested eligible parents were asked to fill out the form to signify that they indeed are interested in volunteering for a role.
Parents (mother or father!) of 4A and 5A students were asked if they would like to nominate themselves to be the Room Representative, via the form.
For the role of president, it was determined to ask the current PA Council members (12 potentially eligible people) if they would like to nominate themselves.
Which positions had vacancy and why:
There were three vacant positions
G4A Room Rep — the family no longer attends CDS
Thank you to Yumin’s mom for her time in this role!
We are very appreciative of Soonwoongs mother for volunteering for the remainder of the school year.
G5A Room Rep — the family no longer attends CDS
Thank you to Claire’s mom for her time in this role!
We are very appreciative of Elly's mother for volunteering for the remainder of the school year.
President — the person has chosen to step down from the position
Thank you to Gio’s mom for her dedication in this role! This is an especially challenging role to occupy and I am very appreciative of anyone who shares their time and effort to support FP in this manner.
We are very appreciative of Alena's mother for volunteering for the remainder of the school year.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.
We look forward to next week — another wonderful week of learning that is engaging, relevant, significant and challenging. Have a great weekend ~
Educationally Yours,
Mr. Hill

April 6 - Hiking Field Trip - Cheongna Island
Dear Parents,
We are excited to announce a school hiking trip that will take place on Thursday April 6 from 8:15-10:15. Please note this is a half day. The purpose of this trip is to educate our students about how we can have a positive impact on our physical community, learn about the natural environment around our school, and explore ways to protect our community through zero waste practices.
During this hiking trip, our students will have the opportunity to learn about the importance of preserving our natural environment, and how they can play a role in keeping it clean and healthy. They will also be able to observe the wildlife and plant species that thrive in our local ecosystem.
Furthermore, we will discuss the concept of zero waste and explore ways to reduce our environmental impact. Our students will be taught how to properly dispose of waste and recycle items, as well as ways to reduce waste through sustainable practices such as using reusable containers.
Safety is our top priority and want to ensure that all students are adequately prepared for the trip with proper equipment and attire. We would like to ask students to bring a backpack, a reusable water bottle, a hat, a healthy snack, and wear Dalton attire.
We believe that this trip will be a valuable learning experience for our students, and we encourage all students to participate. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us!

March 4 - Dance Showcase
On Saturday March 4th, CDS hosted the first ever dance showcase. It was an opportunity for students in Grade 3-5 to display their creativity and hard work in any form of dance on the Dalton Hall stage. Students made the most of their time during the showcase rehearsal and recess time and came into the showcase fully prepared.
On the day of the event, the dancers were given time to practice on the stage and additional time to practice with their groups in the gym. Once all of the groups were ready, parents were invited in to view the showcase. The students put on an amazing show and should be extremely proud of what they were able to achieve. We look forward to hosting this event again next year.
Please visit Schoolsbuddy or our CDS FP website for more information on upcoming events.
