AMSO Principal's Weekly Newsletter
January 10, 2025
Dear Parents/Guardians
The average daily temperature for the next 10 days will be 32 degrees. Please make sure your child wears a coat to school. Students are not allowed to enter the building before 7:25 and waiting outside during this cold weather without a coat could lead to discomfort or illness. We strongly encourage you to ensure your child is dressed warmly and prepared for the weather. Thank you for your help in keeping our students comfortable and health
Best Wishes,
Kathy Burke
Amity Middle School Principal

Weekly Highlights
Students Beverages
This is a reminder that energy drinks are not allowed in school. The only beverage students are allowed to drink in the classrooms is water. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Charging Computers
We appreciate your help in reminding your child to charge their computer each night. Students should bring their charger to school each day in case they need a charge during the school day. Please note that students may receive an after-school detention if they repeatedly arrive to class without a charged device.
Morning Dropoff
When dropping your student off in the morning, please make sure you do not block the staff parking lane when you enter the parking lot.
Save the Date for Amity High School Parent Meeting
8th Grade parents and students are invited to the 8th Grade Parent Night at ARHS on Jan. 30th from 6:30-8:30 pm. The event will include an overview of the high school program, information regarding graduation requirements and course selection along with other valuable information to assist parents and students in preparing to attend ARHS next fall.
Save the Date for Parent Coffee
Middle school students can be asked to deal with problems ranging from adapting to higher expectations in the classroom, conflict with peers or even struggles at home. The ability to thrive despite these challenges arises from the skills of resilience.
Parents are invited to join Mrs. Burke for a parent coffee on Tuesday, Jan. 14th from 10:00-10:45 to discuss strategies and challenges of building resilience in our students. Parents are invited to attend in-person or virtually.
Therapeutic Group Available for Students
AMSO Counseling Department will be starting a new therapeutic group in the coming weeks. Cognitive Behavioral Interventions for Trauma in Schools, or CBITS, is a program intended to help students who have experienced stressful or traumatic life events. The group focuses on developing skills to help them cope in school and at home.
If you think your student may benefit from such a group, please contact AMSO school social worker at claire.mcvey@amityregion5.org.
Tardy Policy
Consistent on time arrival to school is an important component of student success in middle school. Academic instruction starts at 7:34 each day. If students arrive late, they can miss important information and instruction. Please note that students who are tardy 3 times in a 10 day period will be issued an after school detention.
The purpose of this consequence is to underscore the importance of arriving on time and encourage a positive pattern of attendance. We appreciate your help in encouraging your child to take the bus when possible or drop them off at school by 7:25.
Email Notifications for Missing Class
Email notifications for unexcused missed periods are automatically generated at the end of each school day through PowerSchool. These missed periods may be due to outside appointments or late arrivals to class.
Please note that missed periods, tardy arrivals, or early departures require a Dr's note to excuse the missed period and avoid email notification for the absence. If your child feels the unexcused absence for the period has been marked in error, please have your child reach out to that teacher.
Order your Yearbook!
All parents must register using the link below (or click the flyer image), even if you have ordered last year. Seventh and eighth grade students must order a book in order to receive one. When ordering, please choose the student's academic success teacher. Please keep your order confirmation number once you order.
