The Howl - Our Parent Newsletter
August 27, 2024
August 27, 2024
Dear Carter Coyote Families,
Thank you for attending our Parent Orientation event! It was great to see all of our parents visiting the classrooms F2F or virtually. We know you received some important information for you and your child.
Slide Day was a huge success, with students in PK & Kinder sliding into their new houses for the first time! Students new to Carter also found a new house, and now have friends across the grade levels united by their house color. All students sliding into a house received a house colored lanyard.
We are looking forward to some cooler, fall weather, but until that day arrives, we are monitoring the heat conditions at recess daily. Due to an elevated heat index, your homeroom may not be able to go outside for recess at all that day or may go outside for an abbreviated time (10-15 minutes). We are also ensuring that our students have additional water breaks.
Parents, thank you for solidifying your student's dismissal plan. Consistency is key for our students and teachers on duty at the end of the day. Please remember that ALL transportation changes must go through the front office by 2:00 PM.
Rainy Day Dismissal for Walkers & Bikers:
Parents, please know that in the event of excessive rain or severe weather, we will send a text and email alert by 2:15 PM to let you know that it is Rainy Day Dismissal and ALL walkers and bikers will become car riders. Walkers and bikers will not be allowed to walk home in severe weather. If you do not have a car tag, make sure you bring your valid ID.
This Friday, August 30, is early dismissal! Students will be dismissed from school at 11:15. Please plan accordingly!
Carter Innovative Day:
Dear Parents, we're excited to introduce Innovation Day, a bi-monthly event where students will participate in STREAM (science, technology, reading, engineering, arts, math) classes. This 1/2 day every 2 weeks will allow our students to engage in short, but innovative rotations in addition to their regular specials classes, allowing them to explore a variety of subjects in a hands-on manner. We look forward to seeing the positive impact Innovation Day will have on our students' learning experiences. Teachers will be sharing in grade level newsletters the day their students will go to Innovative rotations and the time students will eat lunch. On Innovative Rotation day, the grade level's normal lunch time will change. See grade level newsletters for this information.
Thank you,
A Few reminders About Dismissal
- AM Car line--ARRIVE as Early as 6:45: There is absolutely NO pedestrian drop-off traffic crossing our busy car line in the morning. This is for the safety of everyone.
- ⛔After 7:15 AM, your student is considered tardy. If you pull into the car line at 7:10 or later, you WILL most likely be tardy. After 7:15, parents must park and bring their child(ren) into the office to check-in and receive a tardy slip. ⛔
- PM Car line: PM car line is becoming very efficient. If you come to pick up your child in Car line after 3:00 PM, you may have to park and come in to the office to check out your child.
- AM and PM Car line: Refrain from using your cell phone on school property. Per elementary handbook, cell phone use in the car line is prohibited.
- Crosswalk: Please DO NOT park on Glass Peak Drive OR along Stonecreek Estates Drive on either side of the bridge and walk your student to the crosswalk--this road is not a parking lot. Lately an over congestion of cars parking near the intersections is causing an obstruction of a clear view for our walkers, bikers and crossing guard, particularly on the other side of the bridge where there is no longer staff assisting students and no crossing guard. Additionally, cars trying to come in and out of the neighborhood at Glass Peak Drive are blocked by cars parked to pick up or deliver walker students. The crosswalk is for students who are in the walk zone to Carter and do not have bus service due to their close proximity to the school.
- Pre-K and Kinder students: Students in this age category must have someone waiting to pick them up at the bus stop or cross walk otherwise they will be returned to school, causing inconveniences for you and your child.
To celebrate our new students joining their houses last week, new House Shirts designs have just been added to the Carter Spiritwear Store! House shirts are an approved dress code shirt and can be worn any day of the week.
