Principal's Message
Dear Ross Roadrunner Families,
Thank you to all the Ross families who generously donated parking spots to staff during the alley construction. We appreciate the PTA coordination of this effort and are eager for completion of the project.
We look forward to seeing our parents/caregivers at our Back to School Night grade level meetings. These nights offer you time to hear from teachers about the grade level curriculum and events, meet your Room Parent, and make connections with new and returning families.
All meetings will be held in your child's classroom. Teachers will follow up with the presentation materials for folks not able to attend. PTA is working on possible childcare, details to follow.
Tuesday, September 13, 6:00-7:00pm: PK4
Wednesday, September 14, 6:00-7:00pm: Kindergarten and Grade 1
Thursday, September 15, 6:00-7:00pm: Grades 2-5
Warm Regards,
Holly Searl, Principal

Immunization Compliance Updates
If your child is not current on all immunizations by October 5, they will not be permitted to attend school after that date. By now you have received an initial notification letter from Nurse Gordon and possibly the Dept of Health, with another coming through U.S. mail soon. Please note, this is not a Ross specific requirement; this is a DC Department of Health requirement for Ross as part of DCPS.
Please reach out to Nurse Gordon with questions, cdelancygo@childrensnational.org
Please note that all health and dental forms should be turned into Nurse Gordon and Ms. Segovia. Kindly review the immunizations flier and note that children who are not in compliance with immunizations will not be permitted to remain in school until updated.
Remind APP
We are excited to share that DCPS is rolling out Remind district wide! If you're not already familiar with Remind, it's a classroom communication tool that makes it easy to stay involved with your child's learning. Remind is free to use, and you'll be able to get and send messages on any device—even a simple text message from your phone!
As part of this rollout, official accounts will be created for all the educators, parents, and students at Ross. You may have already received an email or text message from Remind. All you need to do is follow the steps in the message to finish setting up your account. Here is a video demo to see how Remind works. Also, we will set the preferred language for you and your child based on your enrollment so you can receive messages in your home language. As long as the teacher is receiving replies, you can also send messages back in your preferred language, and they’ll automatically be translated into the teacher’s preferred language. Learn more about how to send a translated message here.
We encourage you to check out this parent guide to get tips on how to use Remind. We're excited to use Remind to make connecting with your family more engaging!
Safety Drills
All DCPS schools participate in emergency practice drills each month. We have now practiced two fire drills and one "alert status" drill. We practice fire drills, evacuation drills, lock down drills, severe weather, and shelter-in-place. Ms. Segovia and Mr. Shegda are the Ross leads on the School Emergency Response Team. Our evacuation site is the EDCJCC.
Related to safety, if there are any custody concerns, please notify Principal Searl and Ms. Segovia along with your child's teacher.
School Meals🍎
Breakfast will continue to be FREE for all DCPS students. Breakfast is served in the classroom each morning after the children enter the building.
Lunch is priced at $3.00 per student this year. You must set up a declining balance lunch account through MySchoolBucks for your child to purchase meals. You will need your child's ID number which you can get from Ms. Segovia. You can also find it on your child's report card, if your child is returning to DCPS.
Please complete the Free/Reduced Meal application for a reduced or free rate, based on family income.
If you need help with the application, please see Ms. Segovia. graciela.segovia@k12.dc.gov
