Torrey Hill Intermediate School
Newsletter for October 2023
A Note From The Principal- Mrs. Powell
As the warmth of summer fades and the leaves begin to change to red, orange, and gold, we find ourselves at the beginning of a brand new academic year. Fall has arrived, and with it comes a fresh wave of excitement, possibilities, and learning opportunities here at Torrey Hill.
Over the past month, students have been engaged in many new learning opportunities, created new friendships, and built communities inside their classrooms, and within our school as a whole. Kindness has been our mantra, and is spreading each day in the classroom, hallways, playground and lunchroom.
As we embark on the next few months or adventure, please remember that we are partners in education and are excited to be here to support your students in their educational journey.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS!
DID YOU KNOW:
• Starting in preschool and kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
• Missing 10%, or about 2 days each month over the course of a school year, can make it harder to learn to read.
• Students can still fall behind if they miss just one or two days every few weeks.
• Being late to school may lead to poor attendance.
• Absences and tardiness can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up.
Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school—and themselves. Start building this habit in preschool so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important. Eventually good attendance will be a skill that will help them succeed in high school and college as shared in the Attendance Works Elementary Family Flyer.

FIRST VIEW BUS TRACKING
Change In End Of Day Pick Up?
Any bus changes must be approved by the principal at least 24 hours in advance. Students are not allowed to take alternative buses home unless their is an emergency situation. Please do not use bus transportation as a means of transporting friends for after school social or extracurricular events. Our buses have capacity limits and we cannot add students to bus routes. We care about the safety of our students and therefore must closely monitor ridership on our school buses.
Traffic Safety
We realize the morning and afternoon can be busy times in our parking lots at West Shore and Torrey Hill. Please help with traffic concerns by avoiding crossing over the incoming lane (AM) and outgoing lane (PM) at West Shore (Lahring entrance).
Also, if you enter Torrey Hill from Torrey Rd., please remember you can only turn right at the flagpole. Some are turning left where the sign, "No Left Turn", is located. Thank you for your support.
