Hello families!

It has been a great week at Sullivan Middle School! Thank you to everyone who came out to meet our teachers and staff at Open House. Please don't hesitate to reach out to teachers, teams, counselors, and administration should you have any questions. We are all here to work together to support your student!

This week, we are surveying students, parents, and faculty/staff about our school through the Leader in Me survey. Please take a few moments to give us feedback so we can work to improve experiences here at Sullivan!

Tuesday is an SIC meeting, and we would love to have you be a part of our team to help us in this realm, too! The meeting will be held in the Media Center Tuesday at 5:30. The entrance is off of Cherry Road near Cherry Park Elementary.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Sullivan Middle School is implementing a whole-school transformational process called the Leader in Me, which teaches 21st-century leadership and life skills to students and creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader.

Our school will be conducting surveys to learn more about key areas of strength and areas of needed growth in our school. In order for us to have a holistic picture of what is going on in our school, we are asking all full-time staff members, parents/guardians, and students to participate.

The parent/guardian survey takes about 12 minutes to complete and will ask questions about your child and about his or her experience in our school. If you have more than one child attending the school, you will be asked to think about the oldest child's experiences as you answer questions related to his or her growth.

Our amazing 6th grade teachers designed a lesson this week in which our students were highly engaged and using higher order thinking skills including making observations, inferences, utilizing analysis and making predictions! Our kids had a great time, and they enjoyed being scientific investigators!

Similar to elementary school, homeroom teachers keep a record of how students arrive and depart school each day. We have three modes of transportation that we follow, and we want to make sure that students are leaving school in an appropriate and safe manner. If there needs to be a change in transportation, please notify your administrator and homeroom teacher ahead of time.

• For car riders, please make sure to stay in your vehicle and follow the line of traffic. Pull fully up to the stop area so that the traffic flow is not hampered. Please make sure that you have your name tag in the front winshield so that your student's name can be called.
• If you need a car tag, please call the front office and/or email your child's Falcon Time teacher.
• Beginning next week, the afternoon car rider line will close at 3:35 and students will need to be picked up from the front office. The office closes at 4:00 pm.

After School Tutoring will begin September 3 for core classes from 3:45 - 5:00.

All 7th grade students are required to have an Immunization record on file showing they have received the Tdap vaccine on or after their 10th birthday or a Medical/Religious Exemption certificate. The deadline to avoid your student being excluded from school unexcused for non-compliance is September 9, 2024. Please submit to the school nurse. If you are unsure if your student is current on vaccines, contact your doctor or the Department of Health.

Falcon t-shirts -- we are currently waiting on them and have an arrival date of 8/19 . As soon as we reeive them, we will deliver to your child. Please make sure to pay for your order if you have not done so already.

The PTO is thrilled to announce the first annual Falcon Challenge Dodgeball Tournament! This will be SMS PTO’s main fundraising event for the year. The Falcon Challenge is for every student and encourages them to maintain healthy lifestyles by competing with friends in a dodgeball tournament. It will be a fun day for everyone involved and all funds raised will go towards support for the entire school. Pledge forms for students to collect donations will go home in September. Stay tuned for more details to come and save the date for October 4, 2024!
