The Weekly Update 13
November 22nd
Principal's Coffee
Dear Parent Community,
We are extending the food drive collection through the weekend. If you have not donated yet and are able to, please consider picking up an extra item during your weekend shopping. We sponsor over 50 Summit families for Thanksgiving, and contributions are currently lower than in previous years. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
Anxious Generation School Sponsored Parent Book Group
For those of you who have attended my parent coffees, I’ve discussed the idea of starting a parent book study on The Anxious Generation. Many of our staff members are currently reading the book, and it’s especially relevant for anyone who has children or works in education. We encourage everyone to read along and join us for a book discussion later this school year, on April 23rd at 7:00 pm. More details will be shared soon.
Stephen Hill Virtual Presentation Families
Our consortium is hosting a virtual parent event on 11/25 at 7 PM featuring Stephen Hill. Stephen spoke with our 8th-grade students this year and last year on the harmful effects of drugs and alcohol on both the individual and the family.
Stephen equips parents with essential insights from his lived experience and shares strategies to foster resilience, support mental well-being, and prevent substance use in young people.
The flyer is attached, and here is the Zoom Link.
Picture Day
Make-up day is approaching on Thursday, December 12th and we encourage anyone who was absent or retaking their image to please see our photographer on this day. The email blast with the pre-pay code will be provided in the next parent newsletter. *If your student plans to retake their picture (with or without an order), you MUST email Mrs. Frasca at pfrasca@summit.k12.nj.us by Friday, December 6th for her to put your child(ren) on the retake list.
Absentees?
Once provided, please use the pre-pay code in the email blast to place your order. THIS CODE IS ONLY FOR ABSENTEES. This allows you take advantage of the same packages we provided during original day.
Retaking an Image without an order?
At this time you are only able to view your original day image online. Once your image has been replaced with your re-take you may go online and place an order using your personal web code we provided to you on your Last Chance form.
Retaking an image and already placed an order?
Students MUST bring in original package and provide it to our photographer. We kindly ask parents to write any concerns on the FRONT of the envelope. Your order will be replaced using your new image.
Holiday Absence or Early Dismissals
If you're child/children will be out the week of Thanksgiving or if you will need to sign your child out early before the holiday, please let Mrs. Frasca know asap. You can put your childs attendance in Genesis, call Mrs. Frasca at 908-273-1190 ext. 4455 or email her at pfrasca@summit.k12.nj.us Thank you and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Support Our 8th Grade Washington, D.C. Trip
As the cost of transportation continues to rise, we’re working hard to subsidize our 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C. If you’re looking to avoid cooking during the week of Thanksgiving, please consider ordering takeout from Tito’s on November 26th between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM. Tito’s will generously donate 15% of the proceeds to help fund our trip.
Thank you for your continued support!
The Social Institute's Playbooks
The Social Institute’s Playbooks equip students to #WinAtSocial by explaining how to use platforms for good — in language that relates to both adults and teens. All content within each Playbook is inspired by The Social Institute’s conversations with students across the country and TSI’s daily research on the latest tech trends and updates.
Playbooks have up to twelve sections including:
💬 Rundown - A high-level description of what the platform is all about, who uses it, and why
📲 Students are using this app positively by - How we can use the platform for good
⁉️ Students are tripping up on this app by - Ways others have hurt their health, happiness, or future success
⚠️ Features to be aware of - Flagship features to consider using or avoiding
🎞 Platform in action - A video about how to use the platform
👍 Influencers in Action - How role models are using the platform positively, from students to Olympic athletes
💪 Strong settings - The latest, greatest privacy settings to consider
