Peterson's News
9/16-9/20
It was wonderful seeing so much purple and gold on Friday!!!! Congratulations to our Spirit Day winners Mrs. Williams/Mrs. Balsano's class is our our primary winner and Mrs. Baxter's class is our intermediate winner! They will proudly display the Spirit Day trophy and choose from our Out of the Blue prize cart.
Our Bookworm Vending Machine is here!!!! The vending machine was funded through a Jeanine Nicarico Grant that we were awarded with last spring. Students will receive a token to retrieve a book on their birthday and tokens will also be given out as incentives and rewards. Mrs. Sidhwa and I are in the process of ordering the books. Once we have them, we will begin using it. I have included a link to the full grant below for those of you who are interesting in learning more about it. Pictures are also below!
For those of you using the carline, please mindful of your speed when picking up and/or dropping off your student both in our line as well as when you exit. I was also ask that you not be on your phone as you are picking up and/or dropping off as it is a distraction and isn't safe.
Best,
Alli Landstrom
Supporting Social-Emotional Learning
Teachers will begin teaching the first lesson of our Second Step Curriculum in the couple weeks. The Second Step curriculum teaches students the Social Emotional Learning standards in a developmentally appropriate way. Please see the following link for more information: https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Social-Emotional-Learning-Standards.aspx. The curriculum aligns with our Panther Pledges of Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe. Here is the link if you’re interested in more information: https://www.secondstep.org/second-step-social-emotional-learning
Each month has a theme. The themes are Setting the Stage, Skills for Learning, Empathy, Emotion Management, Problem Solving, and Friendship Skills. For the first four weeks, we have been Setting the Stage by reviewing our Panther Pledges of Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe. The theme that students will be involved in over the next month is Skills for Learning: listening, focusing attention, using self-talk to stay on-task, and being assertive when asking for help with a learning task. In our morning announcements, we’ll be reminding students of these skills, which help students be successful learners. Second Step lessons teach skills for learning. You’ll be receiving a Home Link this week describing why these skills are important and including fun activities to do with your child to practice them. We hope you enjoy them! The Home Links do not need to be returned unless directed by the teacher.
- In Kindergarten - Third grade, Home Links are sent home based upon the content, so a Home Link will not come home every week in these grade levels.
- In Fourth and Fifth grade, a Home Link will be sent home every week.
We will be posting the links for all grade levels on our website in the next couple weeks. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me or your child's teacher.

Author Visit
We had an amazing time on Tuesday with Brad and Kristi Montague! We learned about many accidental failures that became amazing things- from potato chips to ice cream cones, failures have enriched our lives! It was special having all of our students attend the assembly together. Brad and Kristi loved how respectful and engaged our students were and how beautiful our school is!

The school day will begin at 9:15 a.m. This late start delays both school drop off and morning bus schedules. It does not change our dismissal time of 3:35.
