June 6th Grade Newsletter
Butler Middle School
End of the School Year!
Dear Families,
As the school year comes to a close, we want to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude to all the parents and guardians who have supported their children throughout this year. We are grateful for your partnership.
As we look towards the summer months, it is crucial that students maintain their academic momentum. We strongly encourage all families to ensure their children complete assigned math packets and read for at least 20 minutes every day. These simple yet effective practices will help prevent the dreaded "summer slide" and keep your child's skills sharp. By working together, we can ensure that our students return to the classroom in the fall ready to tackle the next grade level with confidence and enthusiasm.
Thank you for your dedication, and we wish you all a safe and enjoyable summer break.
Warm Regards,
6th grade team

Math News
Parents be on the lookout for a summer math packet for students to work on and lightly exercise their brains during the break.
ELA News
We are pleased to announce that students have just finished the third and final Reading diagnostic testing (iready) for grade six. We want to express our appreciation for your child's hard work during this testing period. Students are happy to have crossed this finish line, but now as the summer approaches, please continue to encourage your child to read over the summer. This will ensure that your child maintains the progress made and prepares them for the reading and writing tasks of seventh grade. We are also pleased to share that we have completed the novel The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. The students thoroughly enjoyed this unit. They learned about Greek mythology, expanded their vocabulary, and practiced the reading comprehension and writing skills acquired this year. They especially loved watching the film and noting the differences between the film and the book. In addition, they have been putting the final touches on their Narrative, the final writing assignment for this year. This has been a unique opportunity for students to use their creativity and knowledge of Greek Mythology to revise a scene of their choice. This culminating project has also provided students with a meaningful and enjoyable way to demonstrate their learning. We have so enjoyed working with your child and seeing strong academic growth. It has been our pleasure to work with your child this year!
Science News
Wrapping up their final unit on phenology, students will reflect on what they have learned about the different phases of plants and how it impacts their environment. They will revisit mastered skills such as interpreting and applying data, and constructing and designing solutions.
Social Studies News
Students just completed a summative assessment annotating two passages that contained incorrect, missing, or opinion information about Sub-Saharan Africa. For June we will be learning about Mesoamerica and the three ancient civilizations that flourished in this area; the Aztecs, Incas, and Mayans.
School Updates
Please remind your student to bring their CHROMEBOOK to school everyday. Since outlets are limited in most classrooms, it is best if students charge their laptops at home each night.
