Weekly Updates and Reminders 1/21-1/31
Hello Hamilton Families!
I hope everyone is staying warm and safe during this bitter cold! While the extreme cold may be moving out, it is still very cold! Please plan accordingly for morning drop off and not arrive before 8:15. Regardless of the temperature, I do not have enough staff in the building to open the doors before 8:15. Also with drop off and pick up, please remember to conduct yourselves in an appropriate and lawful manner. I am fully aware of the problems with people driving too fast, letting students out in the middle lane, parking in no parking zones and blocking traffic. The police are involved and at Hamilton as much as possible, we have 3 crossing guards, several staff members outside and I address it directly with parents when I can identify the person. However, we would not need the police if everyone slows down and follows the rules. Getting in and out of the parking lot will not be quick, plan accordingly. Nothing is solved or made better by cussing a fellow parent out, giving them hand gestures or speeding past them. Think of the example you are setting for our children and the consequences of your actions if someone gets hurt or even if you just get a ticket. It is embarrassing for your children and causes a great deal of fear when parents drive dangerously, cus, and yell at others. I thank you in advance for your cooperation and support for our Hamilton Community.
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports -PBIS
As you know about every 4 weeks we have a spot light behavior focus. The chosen spotlight behavior is determined by looking at our Class Dojo data, office referral data, and staff observations. Our current behavior focus is "Be Flexible and Understanding". We will teach lessons this period on how to be flexible and understanding when changes or conflicts occur or when something doesn't go as planned. I have added some links below for you if you would like to reinforce this at home. Please keep an eye on class dojo for your child's spotlight behavior points. Students with the most spotlight behaviors per class get an award and a free Hamilton t-shirt.

School Cancelation Notifications
If the district has to close school you will be notified via automated phone call first. This will also be posted on our district web site, wwcsd.net and posted on the Dojo school story. There is no need to individually message school staff to ask if there is school. This also a good reason to make sure your accurate/current phone number is on file so the call goes to the correct number. You can also check WDIV news https://www.clickondetroit.com/ for school closures as the district will also post it there. Again, the place to check for school closing are school story on Dojo, WWCSD.net, and WDIV if you don't receive a call.

Transportation
We are having some issues with behavior on the bus. Please talk to your student and remind them of the expected behavior on the bus. Please keep in mind that the bus is a privilege and if your child is loses his/her privilege of using the bus they are still required to attend school. Being safe on the bus is critical and the expectation for all students who ride the bus. Students who do not follow the bus expectations will have consequences and if the behavior is repeated they could be removed from the bus.
The district has an app called Here Comes the Bus. This wonderful free app allows you to track exactly where you child's bus is at all times.
