Media Center
Welcome parents to another exciting year at the Carver Media Center!
We are thrilled to kick off the new school year with a range of engaging activities and resources designed to foster a love of reading in your child. We hope your child has shared with you the books they checked out the first month of school. In August, our students participated in orientations covering the media center, Chromebooks, Destiny (our online card catalog), and Lexile levels. We encourage you to ask your child to show you how to use Destiny and to explore books that match their Lexile reading level.
For your convenience, you can access Destiny through this link: https://bryan.follettdestiny.com/portal/portal.
What is Lexile? A Lexile Score measures a student's reading ability and the difficulty level of the text. It helps match students with books and materials that are appropriate for their reading level, supporting growth in comprehension and literacy.
In Media Connections, we are focusing on mindfulness and reading buddies. Last week, we practiced clearing our minds and taking deep belly breaths. This week, we're excited to select books for our reading buddy program. We are eagerly anticipating our collaboration with RHPS and are looking forward to the shared reading experiences.
Additionally, the Book Fair is open now through September 13th! The profits from the fair will help fund our Book Break author visits. Our first virtual author visit will feature Shannon Hale and LeUyen Pham and their book, Princess in Black. We are excited to introduce our students to a variety of wonderful authors throughout the year.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to a fantastic year of reading and learning together!
Best regards,
