DECEMBER 2024
GIFT WRAPPING FUNDRAISER!
Come on out and meet us at Buenos Dias Restaurant (Where Goldie's used to be) on Saturday, Dec. 21 from 9-4. Enjoy your breakfast or lunch while we wrap your Holiday gifts. All we ask is for ANY donation, which will help fund next year's events.
If you're not into the Wrapping Fundraiser, just come out and visit with some neighbors. Woodland Meadows Neighborhood Association's Board will be there and would love to meet you and visit. Come and learn about our association or share some of your thoughts or ideas of future events for the neighborhood. At the very least, just stop in and introduce yourselves. We'd love to get to know more of our neighbors.
End of Year Wrap- Up
It's been a great first year for our Association. We received two grants from the City of Vancouver which helped us get off to a great start. Two Board Members attended recycle workshops which gave us some more grant money to work with and we received some donations from several of our neighbors (THANK YOU!) We investigated a Traffic Calming Program through the City and we started our electronic newsletter through Smore. We met with the City's Forestry Department to discuss the trees in our park. We've had a Big Clean-Up Event, A Neighborhood Garage Sale, Several Meet & Greets, Three Neighborhood Clean Up the Park Events, A Little Library was installed in the park, A BIG Neighborhood Picnic with LOTS of good food, door prizes, bounce house, and even Kona Ice for all! We were able to purchase a huge vinyl sign to put up during events, along with some pens, flashlights and magnets with our logo on them to pass out. We've even collected food for the Clark County Food Pantry and we raised funds with two fundraisers through Red Robin and MOD Pizza. Oh! We've also had some great Neighborhood Association General Membership Meetings which brought several speakers including our former Neighborhood Police Office and the Mayor of Vancouver! Overall, we're very pleased and proud of the accomplishments we've made since becoming the 71st Official Neighborhood Association back in February. We look forward to the City installing signs to show who we are...WOODLAND MEADOWS NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION.
Looking Ahead: We hope to do most of the same events as last year and are interested in possibly adding a Movie Night in Park, Trivia or Game Nights, and to continue to explore ways to help with parking and traffic concerns including trying for the Street Calming Program again and/or Explore a Street Mural. We also hope to have more guest speakers come to our meetings and we really hope to get more neighbors involved in the association.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS SUPPORTED OUR EFFORTS AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT IN THE COMING YEAR. WE ALSO LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING WITH MANY NEW NEIGHBORS IN THE NEAR FUTURE!
2025 CALENDAR OF EVENTS

NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS
This is the second time Jason has been seen out in the neighborhood picking up trash. He wasn't even on his own street! He had his ear buds on rocking to his tunes while cleaning up the neighborhood. As Lucy used to say...."You're a good man, Charlie Brown!" Thank you, Jason, for being a caring neighbor who makes a difference.
Food Drive
Thank you to everyone who participated in our second annual food drive. We collected 149 pounds of food! That's double what we collected last year. All items were donated to the Clark County Food Bank. You are a generous lot!
WELCOME NEW NEIGHBORS!
We welcomed a new neighbor with a welcome kit from the Association. It contained a plant, some literature from the county, city and other local organizations, a couple Woodland Meadows N.A's pens, magnets and a flashlight. Oh! And a notecard with our contact information. If you know of a new neighbor that has just moved in...a renter, homeowner or even a Kestrel Apartment Resident, please let us know so we can welcome them and let them know who we are and what we do. THANKS!
Woodland Meadows Welcomes Trick-or-Treaters!
If you were out trick-or-treating in the neighborhood you probably ran into Hershell grilling hot dogs. Now, how many neighborhoods do that? Hershell is the husband of our Co-Chair Destiny and they outdid themselves this year! Besides the dogs & chips that Velda, our Treasurer, supplied, they also passed out capri suns, soda pops, and goodie bags. THANK YOU Hershell, Destiny, and Velda for making Halloween such a TREAT for our trick-or-treaters!
Ugh! Ugh!
Someone had their Thanksgiving meal under our pavilion and left quite a mess! We sure hope it wasn't someone from our neighborhood! A kind neighbor cleaned up the mess and sent us this photo. We'd like to thank her for cleaning up this mess, that had been sitting there for a few days.
Plus, our little library has been vandalized, not once, but twice. Molding was broken and they tried to break out the piece of plexiglass. The second time, they removed the shelf and threw it on the ground along with some trash. We removed all the books (to keep them dry) until final repairs can be made. If anyone is handy and can lend us a hand on the repairs, we'd appreciate it. Please keep an eye on our little library and if you see something happening, please say something. THANK YOU!
HOLIDAY RECYCLE REMINDERS FROM CLARK COUNTY GREEN NEIGHBORS
The following items CANNOT be placed in curbside recycle carts.
- String Lights. When string lights are placed in the curbside recycle cart, they get stuck on the sorting line and cause the machinery to jam, resulting in costly repairs. Place string lights in the garbage, or search for special recycling locations using the App or Directory.
- Batteries. Batteries that end up in household garbage or inside of recycle carts can explode and pose a significant fire risk. Luckily, there are now several safe Battery Drop-Off sites throughout Clark County. These convenient locations accept a variety of batteries from Clark County households, including cell phones and rechargeable batteries, which often pose the biggest safety risk.
- Electronics. Electronic products contain valuable materials that can be recycled and toxic chemicals that should be kept out of the landfill.
- Block Foam. Never place block foam in your curbside recycle cart. During the transportation and sorting process the foam easily breaks apart and creates challenges at the sorting facility. Place foam in the garbage, or search for special recycling locations using the App or Directory.
- Air Pillows and Bubble Wrap. These items cannot go in your curbside recycle cart. These items can only be recycled when taken to a plastic film collection location, otherwise they go in the garbage.
- Natural Christmas Trees. Skip the flocked snow to be able to compost in your curbside organics or yard debris cart. Before recycling a natural tree, all lights, tinsel, wire, ornaments and stands must be removed. Scouting America will collect trees for recycling in many areas of Clark County on Saturday, Jan. 4. The website has information about neighborhoods with pickup service and contact information.
ARE YOU THE ONE?
We have two Board Positions which will open in February. Well....actually one, as Destiny has agreed to run for a second term as Co-Chair. (But, we will open both positions for nominations) We will have a two year term for the Treasurer's position open that Velda currently serves in. If you think you'd be interested in working with some wonderful neighbors, please let us know. All the hard work of organizing the Neighborhood Association was done over the course of this past year. Now, we just need someone to manage the bank account for us and work with the board. We are a nonprofit, but because we are so small we are not a 501C which makes our finances a bit easier to manage. Below are the Treasurer's Job Descriptions. It truly isn't that time consuming. We generally have four general membership meetings and roughly eight board meetings a year. Please consider joining us. You can email us, or come to the next general membership meeting and let us know. It's a great way to get to know your neighbors, give back to the community in which you live, and it's a resume builder! We can only continue our great work with a little help from our neighbor friends. THANK YOU!
Treasurer Job Description:
Maintain the financial records of the association, manage any and all banking for the association, and prepare periodic reports of financial matters to present to the Board at all neighborhood meetings. The Treasurer will also serve as spokesperson for the association.
YES! DONATIONS ARE ACCEPTED!
We are a non-profit and the only funds we receive are from donations, fundraisers and from grants. Making an annual donation (suggested amount $20) will help us to fund events, pay our insurance, and make neighborhood improvements. You can link directly (via Zeffy.com) to our account by scanning the QR code or it can be accessed via our website. We appreciate the few individuals who have already donated to the Neighborhood Association and we thank you in advance for your future donations.
Come Join Us AND Have Some Fun!
We are a positive and proactive group of concerned neighbors who wish to make our neighborhood the best it can be by working together and by securing services that the city has to offer neighborhood associations. We've made some good friends, too. PLEASE consider joining us by attending a meeting or an event. No time to help? Consider making a donation to the Association.
