Facilitators' Findings
As we transition into the spring season, it's not uncommon for some designers to exhibit signs of "spring fever," characterized by increased restlessness and excitement. While we embrace the energy and enthusiasm that comes with this time of year, it's important that we work to maintain a positive and productive learning environment for all students. Recently, we've observed some instances of heightened behavior in our learning spaces and throughout the campus.
As we approach the end of the school year, I urge adults to have open conversations with their students about the importance of maintaining focus and dedication to their studies. With spring break on the horizon, and summer break just around the corner, it can be tempting for students to become distracted or lose motivation, but reinforcing the significance of finishing the academic year strong is crucial. Encourage your students to set goals, manage their time effectively, and seek support from LEDs if needed. Emphasize the value of perseverance and remind them that their hard work now will pay off in the long run. By fostering a sense of responsibility and determination, together we can ensure that each student maximizes their potential and achieves success academically and beyond.
To address these concerns at D39C, our LEDs and staff are actively engaged in promoting positive behavior management strategies and reinforcing expectations for respectful and responsible conduct. In addition, LEDs are continuously seeking to engage all students in the productive struggle, helping to channel excess energy in constructive ways. Despite the beautiful weather, our designers are still grappling with obstacles, making mistakes, and persisting in efforts to find solutions independently or collaboratively. Even in spring, our learners are cultivating resilience, thinking critically, and adopting a growth mindset, all of which are essential for academic success and lifelong learning.

Month of the Military Child
April is the Month of the Military Child. This is a month to honor and recognize the resilience, sacrifices, and strength displayed by the children of military families worldwide. These remarkable young individuals often face unique challenges, including frequent relocations, separations from their parents due to deployments, and adapting to new environments. Despite these obstacles, military children demonstrate incredible courage, adaptability, and patriotism, serving as unsung heroes alongside their parents. This month serves as an opportunity to celebrate their unwavering support, bravery, and unwavering spirit, acknowledging their vital role within the military community.
Throughout the Month of the Military Child, communities come together to show appreciation and support for the youngest members of our military families. It's a time to highlight their remarkable resilience and the sacrifices they make every day. This month serves as a reminder of the importance of acknowledging and supporting the unique experiences of these young heroes. Let us take this opportunity to express our gratitude and admiration for the strength, courage, and sacrifices of military children, honoring their invaluable contributions to our nation's armed forces.

Cesar Chavez Day
Cesar Chavez Day is celebrated annually on March 31st in honor of the civil rights activist's birthday. It serves as a day of reflection and recognition of Chavez's tireless advocacy for farmworkers' rights and his enduring legacy of social justice activism.
Cesar Chavez stands as an indomitable figure in the fight for workers' rights and social justice, his legacy serving as a beacon of hope and empowerment for marginalized communities. Born into a family of migrant farmworkers in Arizona in 1927, Chavez experienced firsthand the hardships and injustices endured by agricultural laborers. His upbringing instilled in him a deep sense of empathy and solidarity with those toiling in the fields, igniting a lifelong commitment to advocating for their rights. In the 1960s, Chavez co-founded the United Farm Workers (UFW) union, leading groundbreaking labor strikes and boycotts to protest unfair working conditions, low wages, and exploitative practices prevalent in the agricultural industry.
Chavez's leadership was characterized by nonviolent resistance and grassroots organizing, drawing inspiration from the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. He spearheaded innovative tactics such as hunger strikes and marches, rallying support from diverse allies and garnering national attention for the plight of farmworkers. Through his tireless activism and unwavering dedication, Chavez successfully negotiated historic labor contracts that secured better wages, benefits, and improved working conditions for farmworkers across the United States. His enduring legacy continues to resonate today, serving as a reminder of the power of collective action and the enduring quest for social justice.
International Transgender Day of Visibility
The Design39Campus Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA) would like to recognize International Transgender Day of Visibility. As trans people, and specifically youth, are continuing to face discrimination and anti-LGBTQ legislation nationwide, the awareness of this day is crucial for creating safe spaces for our children in school. Please join us in celebrating this day by uplifting the voices of our Trans Youth and reminding them they are seen and valued.

AVID Tip of the Week
The AVID Tip of the Week is to participate in class.
Active participation in class is a cornerstone of the AVID program, and for good reason. Engaging in classroom discussions, asking questions, and contributing to group activities not only enriches your own learning experience but also benefits your peers and the overall classroom dynamic. When AVID students participate actively, they demonstrate their dedication to academic success and a willingness to take ownership of their learning journey. By voicing your thoughts, sharing insights, and seeking clarification when needed, you deepen your understanding of the material and develop critical thinking skills essential for success in college and beyond.
Moreover, active participation in class cultivates essential life skills such as communication, collaboration, and confidence. By actively engaging with your teachers and classmates, you enhance your ability to express ideas effectively, work collaboratively in group settings, and build relationships with peers and instructors. These skills are not only crucial for academic success but also for future career opportunities and personal growth. Ultimately, participating in class empowers AVID students to become self-assured, articulate individuals who are well-equipped to navigate the challenges of higher education and beyond.

Redundant Repetitious Reiterating Repeated Recurrent Routine Reminders

Attendance and OCIS Contracts: If you have a student who will not be in class for 5-14 days, please notify the office so we can have the parents fill out an OCIS contract for their child. The forms will have to be completed and signed by parents 5-10 days in advance of the absence. Click here for a link to the OCIS Contract.
Parents are required to give 5 days notice for absences up to 5 days, 10 days notice for absences more than 5 days.
Prepping work for students who are absent is an incredible amount of work for our teaching staff and we ask that you give your child’s teacher as much advance notice as possible beyond the above guidelines.
We do not write contracts beyond 14 days. If you plan to be away for 15 or more days please contact the Welcome Center for the necessary procedures.
Would you like to become a part of the Design39Campus Team? Do you like to be outside and work with children? If so, we are looking for a few quality Motion Managers to help support our designers during body breaks and lunch during the middle of the day. Possible times are 10:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. or 11:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. If interested, please apply through Poway Unified School District at the this link.
Attendance: To report your child's absence or early checkout, please email the attendance office at d39cattendance@powayusd.com before 10:00 am on the day of the absence. Please include your child's name, homeroom/grade, dates of absence, and reason for absence. We kindly ask that you avoid checking out your student during the lunch period from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. Please refer to the attendance section of our Design39Campus website for protocols regarding reporting student absences and requesting early release for your student.'
California Education Code 48205 states that a student may be excused legally from school when the absence is due to:
- Personal illness or injury
- Quarantine under the direction of a county or city health office
- Medical, dental, or chiropractic services
- Attendance at funeral services for a member of the immediate family
- Justifiable personal reasons, including, but not limited to, an appearance in court, observance of a holiday or ceremony of his or her religion, attendance at religious retreats, attendance at an employment conference, when the pupil's absence has been requested in writing by the parent and approved by the principal or designated representative
- For the purpose of serving as a member of a precinct board for an election
- Exclusion for failure to present evidence of immunization
- Exclusion from school because student is either the carrier of a contagious disease or not immunized for a contagious disease
Communication with your Designer: If there is a need to communicate with your child during the school day, please send a message to your child’s LED or the Welcome Center. Please refrain from communicating with them directly through text messages or phone calls as it disrupts their learning.
Personal Items: For equity reasons, we are asking that students keep their personal playground equipment at home or in their backpack. Our wonderful Collaborative supplies us with enough funding to ensure that there is enough equipment during recess and lunch.

The D39C Collaborative is a 100% volunteer-run foundation designed to be responsive to the needs of students, parents, and learning experience designers of Design39Campus. Their mission is to expand and enhance the educational experience of every student attending Design39Campus.

Food and Nutrition Updates and Reminders: School breakfast and school lunch are FREE for all enrolled students, every school day. Meals must still be entered into the cafeteria computer by individual student account.
Even though meals are free, families are still highly encouraged to complete the application for free and reduced-price meal eligibility. School site funding depends in part on the number of students eligible for free/reduced-price meals. Families that qualify for free/reduced-price meals may qualify for other benefits, as well. The meal application is available online at MySchoolApps.com.
