Egg Harbor Township High School
Week of March 24, 2024
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Dear EHTHS Families and Staff,
Happy Spring! It was a short week, but a lot was happening on and off campus this week.
Last Friday was an exciting day for our Deaf Education students as they went on a behind-the-scenes tour of our local post office. There, they were able to witness the hustle and bustle of package processing and gain invaluable insights into the daily operations of the EHT post office where more than 14,000 packages are handled each day. It was an eye-opening experience! Post Master Mason even surprised each student with a thoughtful gift pack containing a string bag, a USPS t-shirt and a book chronicling the history of the US Postal Service.
A special thank you goes out to Dr. Allison Lindsay for interacting with our Medical Science Academy students. As a proud graduate of EHTHS and the Lead Veterinarian at Emancipet Clinics in Philadelphia, Dr. Lindsay was able to share her veterinary journey. Her story was truly inspiring and enjoyed by the students.
Mr. Hackney’s AP Art History class was fortunate to visit the Penn Museum of Art in Philadelphia. Exploring diverse art exhibits spanning continents and epochs, students immersed themselves in the cultural tapestry of humanity, encountering treasures from Africa, ancient Egypt, Asia, Etruscan Italy, Classical Greece & Rome, Mexico, the Middle East, and pre-contact America. From deciphering cuneiform scripts to marveling at Hammurabi’s Code, our students truly enjoyed the journey through time and creativity.
Our Fine and Performing Arts Department hosted their annual District Band Festival on Wednesday night. Students from Miller, Alder, and Fernwood collaborated with our high school students to put on an amazing performance. The auditorium was full of talented students led by inspirational directors.
Today, our Physical Education classes will enjoy performances by the Indoor Percussion and Color Guard students. Both of the indoor ensembles are competing at the top of their respective circuits, winning or coming very close to first in every competition they attend. The students are excited to share their production with our students and staff.
On a sporting note, Tuesday marked the debut of our Flag Football extravaganza led by Coach Bell and our Flag Football team. With teams from Pleasantville, Cedar Creek, Oakcrest, Millville, Cape May Tech, and Kingsway, the event buzzed with camaraderie, competitive spirit and positive energy. Our team secured a solid victory against Cape May Tech, however they encountered a tough 1-point defeat against Kingsway.
On Wednesday, our golf team made history by hosting the inaugural CAL girls regular season event at McCullough’s Emerald Golf Course. Despite the chilly weather, 32 girls from eight CAL schools showcased their talent and sportsmanship, making it a memorable day for all.
Looking ahead, the Class of 2025 is preparing for a magical "Midsummer's Night" Prom at Harrah’s Convention Center on May 30. For more information, please CLICK HERE.
Finally, as we gear up for the upcoming total Solar Eclipse on Monday, April 8, it's crucial to prioritize eye safety. Whether observing through eclipse glasses or handheld solar viewers, please ensure that you follow proper guidelines to safeguard our vision. Remember, never observe the Sun through a camera lens, telescope, or binoculars without appropriate filters, as it could result in serious eye injury. For more information, please visit: https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/future-eclipses/eclipse-2024/safety
Don’t forget, the district is closed from Friday, March 29 through Sunday, April 7. We are looking forward to welcoming our students back on Monday, April 8. Have a wonderful and relaxing Spring Break!
Ms. Carugno
Here are some important safety guidelines to follow during a total solar eclipse.
- View the Sun through eclipse glasses or a handheld solar viewer during the partial eclipse phases before and after totality.
You can view the eclipse directly without proper eye protection only when the Moon completely obscures the Sun’s bright face – during the brief and spectacular period known as totality. (You’ll know it’s safe when you can no longer see any part of the Sun through eclipse glasses or a solar viewer.) Do NOT look at the Sun through a camera lens, telescope, binoculars, or any other optical device while wearing eclipse glasses or using a handheld solar viewer — the concentrated solar rays will burn through the filter and cause serious eye injury. Do NOT use eclipse glasses or handheld viewers with cameras, binoculars, or telescopes. Those require different types of solar filters.
As soon as you see even a little bit of the bright Sun reappear after totality, immediately put your eclipse glasses back on or use a handheld solar viewer to look at the Sun.

Speech and Language Easter Egg Hunt
Wednesday morning on 3/27 we had our annual Speech and Language Easter Egg Hunt in the library. This hunt incorporated communication skills both during and after which made for a productive and enjoyable morning. The 4 MD classrooms (Ms. Maira, Mrs. Borman, Mrs. James, and Mrs. Ormond) came together with Mrs. Garman and Ms. Molly Gordons Preschool classrooms. The high school students broke off into groups and assisted the preschoolers in finding eggs. Each group also had a paraprofessional supporting them, but the preschoolers needed little assistance as they worked hard and searched all over. Once they found 10 eggs per group, they each were provided with a communicative worksheet where the high schoolers worked with the preschoolers to complete. This helped initiate communication among the group and reviewed their fun throughout the hunt. The students had a blast and every teacher and paraprofessional involved was extremely helpful in making the event a success. Mrs. Grossman, Mrs. Sullivan, and the staff within the library provided the amazing support and help they always do. It was a team effort with everyone involved and I can’t say thank you enough to everyone who helped out.

#DAY 1
The High School will be continuing with this bullying-prevention program for this school year!
#DAY1--a staff and student-led philosophy that will serve to foster a building-wide atmosphere of kindness and inclusion.
This program was started a few years ago in Bergen County by the Tyler Clementi Foundation and has gained momentum throughout the state and country for use in schools, community groups, workplaces, and sports teams.
The premise is simple: the adults in the building make a “declaration statement” about behavior that is expected, as well as behavior that is unacceptable, and we all pledge to conduct ourselves accordingly. This includes seeking help when we witness unacceptable behavior occurring.
This notion is called being an #Upstander
Has your student taken their #Upstander Pledge yet?!?
Have them sign into their school account and click here! 😊
If you'd like more information on #Day1, please go to: https://tylerclementi.org/day1/
