Message to Families / Mensaje a las familias
Estimadas familias de Lent
March has brought about a joyful month of learning and growth. It has been a pleasure to continue to get to know families and students through the various meetings and events. Thank you to the robost team of Parents who come and volunteer at our school each week and to the PTA for putting on family events to support community cross cultural engagement. I enjoyed the Tamale making event, Literacy night and learned new things at the Know your Rights meeting. We have some changes coming up as some have already heard with Maestra Margarita out on a leave current staff member Maestra Chavez-Martinez will take up the teaching of the first grade class. I also want to share that our amazing substitute administrator's time is coming to an end here on Friday. With that said Mr. Weeks has kindly agreed to continue subbing on the days that I will be out for meetings and trainings so this is not a goodbye but a hearty Thank You for all you have done to jump in a serve during the communities time of need. We look forward to the continued partnership and opportunities to catch up as the year progresses.
Construction will continue during spring break, fully closing the auditorium for the remainder of the year. The project is on track at this point in time to be completed prior to the beginning of the 2025 - 2026 school year.
I continue to be impressed with the high quality teaching that is occuring throughout the building. This is evident also in the Winter Academic scores that show students continue to make growth gains across academic areas. Thank you to the fabulous staff who will take a well deserved rest during our upcoming SPRING BREAK next week.
May you also find a moment to take a break and breath in hope while releasing fears. I believe in selfcare and plan to spend time this break doing the things I enjoy most; being with my family, being outdoors near water, and eating delicious food. I hope you too find a moment for yourself and another for your loved ones as you renew your emotional stores launching into spring.

From the moment I arrived on the Lent campus in early December, I could tell what a special community this is. I felt welcomed by staff, students and parents who were all extremely friendly and accommodating. People went out of their way to ensure that I had what I needed and felt at home.
At this point, I have come to the realization that I will need to free up my schedule in order to address aging parents in another state. For that reason, March 21 will be my last day here. My time here has been very special and I want to thank you all for that.

Congratulations to all of the OBOB Lent teams who participated in this year's Lent Oregon Battle of the Books! All eight teams did an amazing job answering the questions related to the 16 OBOB books! The winning team of our school competition was the 5th grade team, Book Buzz! They went on to represent Lent at the Regional OBOB Competition. Congratulations Book Buzz!
Coming up in the month of April, we’re happy to be hosting author/illustrator, Aron Nels Steinke! He will be presenting his new book, Speechless, to 3rd - 5th grade classes on April 17th. To order a signed copy of his book, please see the information on the flyer.

Celebrating Women’s History Month,
Celebrating Women’s History Month, during this month’s school assembly, students will be giving speeches as women in history and their great accomplishments. We will also be spending some time coming together as a community to have some fun, sing some songs, and recognize classrooms for their excellent performance in specials and common areas with the Golden Trophies!
To share a little about why we celebrate with Golden Trophies and Paw Prints, research shows that positive reinforcement systems like these can dramatically affect school environments in a positive way. These systems work by focusing on the positive while subtly teaching and reinforcing school expectations. It is like the old expression, “A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down!”
Counselor Corner
LeAnne Forsberg - lforsberg@pps.net & Claudia Brown - cbrown20@pps.net
As part of our K-5 anti-discrimination curriculum across PPS, counselors are teaching classroom lessons on gender and pronouns this month. These lessons, in accordance with state and district policy, are provided to all students.
Lent gender diversity club is expanding to younger grades. Students who identify as non-binary, trans or other diverse expressions of gender as well as allies are welcome to attend club with the counselor during their lunch time once a week.
PPS affirms that “all students need a safe and supportive school environment to progress academically and developmentally. Learning about gender and the gender spectrum is an important part of creating and sustaining this environment for all students.”
Our district and the Oregon Department of Education has strong inclusive policies around LGBTQIA+ students. Refer to this link to access parent guidance toolkits and district policy:
In April, counselors will be engaging with students around conflict-resolution, bullying prevention and diversity.

SUN Program -
Hello Lent families! We are at the end of the winter SUN term! SUN registration forms have gone home, so please keep an eye out for those. A couple reminders about SUN:
Filling out a form does not guarantee enrollment.
If your student is enrolled for a class they did not sign up for, it is because their first choice was full.
Students are not guaranteed all 4 days of the week in SUN. If your student was enrolled all 4 days last term, it is likely they will have less days this term.
If your student was consistently picked up early or absent from SUN, other students will get priority.
Please make sure to turn in SUN forms by April 3rd.
