Coloma Junior High
Family Newsletter for the Week of 3/11/24
End of Marking Period 3
Friday marks the end of our 3rd Marking Period. We have now completed 3/4 of our school year. How can you help your student finish the school year strong?
Study Hall Reminders
Just a reminder that we offer Study Hall every week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:05 - 4:05. Students have enough time to grab an after school snack and their things and report to the Study Hall room. Study Hall can be used for additional help on assignments in any content area, additional time on assignments, access to the internet for larger projects or test make-ups.
In an effort to ensure that students are safe and supervised, students must remain in the Study Hall room until 4:05 unless prior arrangements have been made by a caregiver. Students are responsible for their own transportation after study hall.
8th Grade Families
Your child will be participating in the PSAT in April. A strong score on the PSAT can open many doors for your child as they enter high school. If you want to encourage your child to maximize their score, they can utilize a free online prep through Khan Academy that is linked below.
Student Perception Survey
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Our district will be taking part in the MI Student Voice Perception Survey on March 13th.
The survey will be administered to students in grades 6 - 12 and is designed to provide a holistic picture of the student experience beyond test scores. Topics covered include perceptions of students’ engagement, belonging, and social-emotional learning. Survey data will be used by school administrators to help guide district improvement planning for school instruction and services. Students are our first priority and we believe it’s important to listen to them to help make the educational experience better.
The survey does not ask questions regarding drug or alcohol use, intimate relationships, political or religious affiliations, or other personal information.
Students will be asked to complete the survey online using their Chromebook during WIN. The anonymous survey is designed to protect students' privacy. The survey has under 40 questions and is expected to take 10 minutes or less to complete.
We encourage all students to take part in the survey, as we hope to gather a lot of important information on their experiences. Participation is voluntary. Students may skip any question they do not wish to answer. Students may stop participating in the survey at any point without penalty.
If you want to opt out of having your child participate in the survey, please complete the attached form and return it to the office.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at wtremblay@ccs.coloma.org .
Sincerely,
Wendy Tremblay
