Tolling of the Hour
Prelude
*Call to Worship
One:Do not be afraid; for see I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people.
All:To you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord.
One:Let us worship God!
*Hymn 22“Angels, from the Realms of Glory” REGENT SQUARE
*Invitation to Confession & Prayer of Confession
Today marks a new beginning with the birth of Christ. Let us confess the sins that have kept us from glorifying and enjoying our God. Let us pray…
Gracious God, you call us to celebrate the birth of our newborn savior. Yet we find the suffering and despair of our world depressing. Our hearts grow hard with hopelessness. What reason is there to rejoice? We doubt your power even on Christmas Day. Emmanuel, return us to faith. Help us resist the overwhelming forces that drag us down. Lift our spirits so we can see and appreciate the gift of God-with-us. Lord, hear our prayers…
Assurance of Pardon
One:Born that day was grace – for the broken and bereft; born that day was hope – for the vulnerable and forgotten; born that day was love – for all of us!
All: Thanks be to God, we are forgiven! We will go to tell others of all we have seen, heard, experienced, and know. Amen.
*Grateful Response“Good Christian Friends Rejoice”
Good Christian friends rejoice, with heart, and soul, and voice;
Now ye year of endless bliss: Jesus Christ was born for this!
He hath opened heaven’s door, and we are blest forevermore.
Christ was born for this! Christ was born for this!
Good Christian friends rejoice, with heart and soul and voice;
Now ye need not fear the grave: Jesus Christ was born to save!
Calls you one and calls you all, to gain the everlasting hall.
Christ was born to save! Christ was born to save!

*Affirmation of Faith- The Apostles Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Makerof heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead; he ascendedinto heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence heshall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
Prayers of the People and the Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, Who art in heaven, Hallowed be thyname. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
