Saber Success Week: August 2024
Orientation, lockers, draft schedules, books and more!

Welcome to the Saber Family!
We would like to welcome you to the Sinaloa Family. For the 24/25 school year, we will continue to allow our students to choose their lockers the week before school starts. On these days we will also be providing draft schedules, assigning books, and offering ASB items for sale. (locks, PE clothes and agenda books).
Please plan to join us! We love getting to see our students and families after the long summer break, and especially enjoy the excitement on everyone's faces as we embark on the new school year.
INCOMING 6TH GRADERS- WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) - We have a special day planned for you on Friday, Aug. 9th. This day will start in our Sinaloa gym starting at 8:00 AM and it will be filled with fun activities, an opportunity to meet some of the faculty and staff and a great way to get to know your WEB Leaders and classmates. Lunch and all materials to have an awesome time will be provided. These morning activities are for the incoming 6th Grade students ONLY, Parents you can join us after lunch at 12:30 for the SABER Success Day where you can purchase PE clothes, Agenda Books and locks for their lockers.

SABER SUCCESS DAYS
IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE: All Aeries authorizations must be completed, handbook signature pages must be signed and brought with the student, and vaccinations must be updated and turned in.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO BEFORE I COME? Please sign on to Aeries and complete your data confirmation before you come to Sinaloa. The process has 4 steps; Step 1- student locators, Step 2 - purchasing locks, PE clothes and agenda books, Step 3 - textbooks, Step 4 - lockers.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING? The handbook signature sheets signed by the parent and student (it is attached to this email.) A "Sinaloa lock" from last year or plan to buy a lock.
DO 7TH AND 8TH GRADERS NEED TO BE THERE RIGHT AT 9:00 AM? No, There is usually a line right at 9:00 AM, but by 10:30 it is not as busy. The process takes about an hour depending on crowds and how long it takes your student to choose their locker.
DO 6TH GRADERS NEED TO BE THERE ALL DAY ON FRIDAY 8/9? We have an amazing morning scheduled for all our 6th graders and we will be feeding them lunch before they join their parents for their SABER SUCCESS DAY. The SABER SUCCESS DAY for 6th grade starts at 12:30 PM and the process usually takes about an hour depending on crowds and how long it takes your student to choose their locker.
IS THERE A MAKE UP DAY? Yes, we will have a make-up day on Aug. 14th from 9:00 -12:00.

(our line will be shut down at 11:30am on Weds. and Thurs. and 2:30 on Friday)
- Line will start outside the MPR.
- Student's and families will then make their way through ASB sales, locker choice, and the library for books.
- NO LOCKERS CAN BE HELD - we will be monitoring this. Please arrive with friends/family if you would like to have lockers together. In order to claim your locker you will need to have a Sinaloa MS lock that you have purchased or that you had from the previous year.

STUDENTS ON PROBATION - Sinaloa students that received 3 or more F's and have more than 20 tardies on their final report card of the 2023-24 school year will be starting the new school year on probation. This means that they cannot participate in choosing a locker during the SABER Success days or participate on the Sinaloa sports teams until they are off probation. Probation Students will have their lockers assigned to them.

Aeries Data Confirmation
Simi Valley Unified District will be utilizing the Aeries computer system again this year for your child’s academic progress, as well as health, contact information and communication. In order to get your locker, and other materials you will need to have all of your data confirmation updated on Aeries.
NOTE: When updating contact information, it would be helpful to use a cell phone number as the primary number. This will allow you to receive the text messages the school sends out. If you need assistance logging into the Aeries Parent Portal, our school office will reopen on July 24th and you can give us a call then at 805-520-6830.
SINALOA MIDDLE SCHOOL ASB SALES
All in-person sales will have to be CASH or Credit Card to start the school year. We cannot accept personal checks during the SABER Success Days. If you order Items online we will not be able to have those items ready for pick up until Aug. 14th. Unfortunately, our vendor had to raise the prices for our PE Clothes and Locks so we have to raise our prices as well. This year PE shirts and shorts will cost $15 each or $30 for the pair. Locks will cost $10. If you want to purchase all items it will cost $50 for PE clothes, locker locks and an agenda book.
FAQ'S
What if I can't attend on my grade level day? You can attend one of the other dates for a "lower" grade level. IE: 8th can attend 7th. Unfortunately, a 6th grader who can not make their day will need to attend MAKE-UP day on August 14th. (9am-12pm)
*** Either the Sinaloa student and/or their parent/guardian must attend and participate in the full process of lockers, ASB & books. Unfortunately, we can not hold items or lockers.
When will my class schedule be available? You will receive a locator at your grade level success day, but it will not list blocks/periods or teachers. It will list your courses (IE: English 7)
What school supplies do I need for the 24/25 school? Suggested basic school supplies would be: pens, pencils, college ruled paper and somewhere to organize your documents. (spiral with folder, 3 ring binder, etc.) Teachers may suggest specific items once the school year starts.
Computer & Books: The school district supplies laptops and books. Students are responsible for these items. They should be brought to school daily, and computers charged. Students will be asked to cover their books for added protection. New students to the district will be given their laptop at their grade level success day.
Locker & Locks: Students will be allowed to choose a locker at their grade level Saber Success Day. unless they are on Probation. In order to secure their choice students must bring their Sinaloa lock and/or purchase one that day. Students can use the same lock while attending Sinaloa.
PE Clothes: PE Clothes will be available for purchase on Saber Success Days. They are $30 for the set. Reminder: students may use grey/black shirts and shorts with a location for their name, however, they must be kept in their PE locker and students are expected to change for PE everyday.
***Reminder: purchasing items is not required. If a student or family needs assistance with school supplies or ASB items, please contact your school counselor via email ahead of orientation so we can be prepared to assist you.
