Cardinal Dynamics Robotic Team
HS Robotics Tournaments in March
The Corbett High School robotics team, Cardinal Dynamics, is competing again this year in the FIRST Robotics Competition. Our two season tournaments are coming up fast. Please come out to support the team and cheer them on.
Tournament #1 - Friday and Saturday, March 7th and 8th, Clackamas Academy of Industrial Sciences, 1306 12th St, Oregon City, OR 97045.
Tournament #2 - Saturday and Sunday, March 22nd and 23rd, Wilsonville High School, 6800 Wilsonville Rd., Wilsonville, OR 97070.
The team has been working very hard for the past 8 weeks to build a 125 lb competitive robot from scratch!
Competitive robotics is a huge logistical undertaking. Aside from the school providing space to operate and class time during the day, the team is entirely self-sufficient. We would like to give a BIG thank you to all our supporters and those who help us out. If you would like to learn about ways you can help out the team, either financially or with your time, please reach out to us at robotics@corbett.k12.or.us. We hope to see you all at our competitions this year! Follow along with the action on instragram: https://www.instagram.com/cardinaldynamics/.

From Behind the Curtains, to Centerstage
A Perspective Piece by Elora Lyon
I started out Godspell as one of the stage managers. I was fully prepared to do a show where tech was even more behind the scenes than usual, seeing as Godspell has no scene changes. It was going to be a welcome break, not having to stress about moving set pieces during the show.
Then I walked into rehearsal one Monday and was immediately asked if I wanted to sing. I assumed that someone was gone for that day and they wanted to work on choreography, so when I said yes, I had no idea that I had just agreed to join the cast! Throughout that rehearsal, I pieced together that one of the cast members had to leave for personal reasons, and they needed someone to replace her. Since I wasn’t the only stage manager, and I had happened to walk into the Multi Purpose Building at the right time, I was the perfect choice.
Suddenly I was part of the cast. Not only did this mean I would now have to go to every rehearsal (seeing as I had only been going to about 75% of them before), but I would also have to learn a month's worth of choreography and blocking that I had missed.
It’s been about a month since then, and despite snow days and canceled rehearsals, everything's coming together. I can’t wait to take the stage with my fellow cast members in April!

From the Health Room
As we head towards Spring and your children are outside more, I thought it would be helpful to print the CDC guidelines on preventing injuries in children. For those who have students that are learning to drive, reviewing basic traffic and car safety is important.
Steps you can take to prevent leading causes of child injury include: Burns • Install and maintain smoke alarms in your home. • Develop and practice a family fire escape plan. • Set your water heater’s thermostat to 120 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. • Use safe cooking practices, such as never leaving food unattended on the stove. Drownings • Install a four-sided isolation fence, with self-closing and self-latching gates, around backyard swimming pools. • Wear life jackets in and around natural bodies of water. • Learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and get recertified every two years. • Supervise young children at all times around bathtubs, swimming pools, and natural bodies of water. Falls • Use playground equipment that is properly designed and maintained, and that has a soft landing surface material below. • Use home safety devices, such as guards on windows that are located above ground-level, stair gates, and guard rails. • Wear protective gear when playing active sports, such as wrist guards, knee and elbow pads, and helmets when in-line skating. • Supervise young children at all times around fall hazards, like stairs and playground equipment. Poisonings • Store medicines and other toxic products such as cleaning solutions in locked or childproof cabinets. • Put the poison control number, 1-800-222-1222, on or near every home telephone. • Follow directions on the label when giving medicines to children. Read all warning labels. • Dispose of unused, unneeded, or expired prescription drugs. Road traffic injuries • Use appropriate child safety seats. • If you have a teenage driver, sign an agreement in order to limit risky driving, such as having multiple passengers and driving at night. • Transport children in the back seat of your vehicle. • Make sure children wear motorcycle and bicycle helmets. www.cdc.gov/safechild
Have a safe and active Spring!
