Graduates of Distinction
Last week, DPS celebrated our 2025 Graduates of Distinction from Galileo Magnet High School and George Washington High School!
Each of the 49 students recognized accumulated points based on the following five pillars: academic achievement, citizenship, community service, attendance, and participation in extra-curricular/co-curricular activities. Attendees heard from keynote speaker Taleia Barksdale, attorney and DPS alum.
In addition, students with the top 8 GPAs and Legacy Graduates who have attended Danville Public Schools since Kindergarten were recognized. This Week’s Must-Read: Building Classroom Bonds That Last
Our Class is a Family (The Classroom Community Collection)
“Our Class is a Family” is a book that will help build and strengthen that class community. Kids learn that their classroom is a place where it’s safe to be themselves, it’s okay to make mistakes, and it’s important to be a friend to others. When hearing this story being read aloud by their teacher, students are sure to feel like they are part of a special family.
Guts: A Graphic Novel
A graphic novel memoir about anxiety, health fears, and growing up. Honest and highly relatable for tweens.
Raina wakes up one night with a terrible upset stomach. Her mom has one, too, so it's probably just a bug. Raina eventually returns to school, where she's dealing with the usual highs and lows: friends, not-friends, and classmates who think the school year is just one long gross-out session. It soon becomes clear that Raina's tummy trouble isn't going away... and it coincides with her worries about food, school, and changing friendships. What's going on?
