Attention LHS Staff: All 640+ academic CCR referrals previously submitted to counselors have been acted on using the previous system in place, possibly resulting in referrals to administration. In realization of the current needs of students, the LHS School Counseling team will be shifting their CCR focus for the remainder of the 2019-2020 School Year to address social-emotional, mental health, basic needs, academic/career planning, and relationship building with students and families. This is not to take away the importance of students completing assignments, logging in, and participating in classwork - it is to help meet the unmet needs that might be prohibiting students from doing so.

We are going to being running the #ShipsStayHome Challenge weekly focusing on one of our six MPSD Character Touchstones. This week, we will focus on Integrity. Here is how the challenge works:

Shipbuilders, we know that you miss your students! In honor of prom week, Ships Staff will be hitting the streets on Friday 4/24 if you are available and driving through local neighborhoods to see our Ships! We will be leaving LHS at 10:00am and will cruise around Manitowoc as one! Please meet in the JFK parking lot at 9:30am. Decorate your car, make some posters, have a great playlist ready to go! We want to practice social distancing during this time as well.

In conversations with students, staff, and parents around best practices during Distance Learning a common practice that has been applauded by students and parents is the creation of a weekly schedule containing the work to be completed during the week. We have many staff members currently rocking this process, and we have shared an example of Telly Jahnke's document below.

ACT has recently communicated that this year's scores will be released in the coming weeks. In addition to communication with school districts, individual scores will be sent to students at their home address. Though online score platforms appear to active, students may not have access until their scores are officially released. We will be sure to keep everyone updated.

Communicating with Parents:

In some feedback that we received from a few parents last week, it came to our attention that some of our families would appreciate the opportunity to communicate with our staff members via phone call, as opposed to solely relying on email. Since you currently do not have access to a classroom phone, and we don't expect you to share your personal information... below are the directions to create a "pseudo number" generated through Google Voice. As we continue our school year through distance learning, it will be important to utilize a variety of avenues to connect to and communicate with our families. Your commitment to our students and families is sincerely appreciated!

Google Voice Directions

When calling students you may not want to use your own cell phone number. Google Voice is an app that will allow you to call students without them seeing your personal phone number. See below for how to download and use Google Voice.

1. Download Google Voice from your App Store on your phone

2. Follow the instructions within the Google Voice App to utilize this free service

Keeping IC Updated:

Just a reminder to continue to input information into Infinite Campus. Although we may not be grading as we have done in the past, inputting completion data/information into IC helps counselors, academic lab advisers, students, and parents know their progress.

Our mobile WiFi units inventory for families in need, has been restocked. If you know of a student/family in need of WiFi in order to access virtual learning opportunities, let Lee, Kyle, Lainey or Katie know and we will deliver the device!
