Welcome to YOUR Senior Year!

Congratulations, you made it to your senior year!

This is an exciting time with many transitions and decisions to be made. In order to ease the transition from high school to post high school, the counseling center creates and distributes an almost weekly newsletter. The newsletter will be available on-line on our college planning website, https://sites.google.com/a/npsne.org/collegeplanning/, They are also available in the counseling center and will be posted on the bulletin board in the forum. The newsletters will be emailed to you on your school email address.

The newsletter will contain information on events coming up, deadlines, scholarship information, and helpful hints. This is your newsletter designed to help YOU! Please feel free to bring suggestions for improving the newsletter and information about events and scholarships to Mrs. Bartels in the counseling center.

Scholarshps

Most of you don’t have a money tree growing in your back yard. Soooo...you are probably looking for ways to pay for college expenses. The good news is that there is a lot money out there. You just need to know how to get it!

Generally, scholarships that students earn are awarded by the college to which the student has been accepted. Therefore, it is important to apply and be accepted at the college in order for them to be eligible for those scholarships. You will be eligible for many scholarships just by sending in your college application! Other scholarships require you to be enrolled before you can apply for the scholarship.

Seniors should do these things before the end of the 1st quarter:

· Apply to the college(s) you are considering attending. That way you are on their list early for potential scholarship money.

· Watch for the newsletters each week for specific information of scholarships.

· Start a folder to keep all of your college information organized.

· Review you transcript. Talk to your counselor if something is not right.

Event Information

College Fair

There were over 70 post high school schools represented last year. You will receive information on applying for federal financial aid and visit with college reps about their school.

Students need to register for a barcode. By getting a barcode, you will no longer have to fill out informational cards for each college. You will be receiving a postcard in your advisory with instructions on how to obtain your barcode.

Young Men Turning 18

All young men must register for selective service one month before their 18th birthday. Do this at this website: https://www.sss.gov/ or stop in the counseling center and see Mrs. Rohleder. If you do not do this, you will not be able to apply for financial aid.
