On Monday morning, we wrapped up our first all-school "Block Party" assembly with great energy and excitement. We continued our focus on Edgewood Reads, reinforcing the importance of reading as a community, while introducing a fun and engaging way to highlight resilience through a Paper Airplane competition. Each SSB selected an "aviator" to represent them, and the entire school cheered on their classmates as they aimed for success, embracing the theme of working through challenges and learning from mistakes. The excitement hit a high point with a special appearance from Eddie the Eagle, bringing even more fun and spirit to the event. It was a fantastic start to the week, filled with teamwork, laughter, and school pride.

All Illinois schools must conduct a law enforcement lockdown drill each year within the first 90 days of school. According to Board Policy 4:170, the District will conduct safety drills for all students "except for those exempted by administrators, school support personnel, or a parent/guardian." September is Suicide Awareness Month, a time to focus on getting people to speak more openly about mental health struggles and learn how to recognize the signs that someone might be thinking about suicide. Carthweel Care offers a free toolkit to provide people with the know-how to spot when someone’s struggling and give them the confidence to do something about it. You can download the toolkit from Cartwheel’s website.

At Edgewood, we offer a wide range of clubs, sports, and after-school activities for students. It's important for students to engage in these extracurricular activities, as they provide valuable opportunities for personal growth, teamwork, and skill development beyond the regular classroom experience.
