The Parkway Press
A Weekly Newsletter for Parkway Families
Week of November 13-17
We have one more week of school before our Thanksgiving Break.
This year is flying by!
I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and take time to tell the people you love how grateful you are for each and every one of them.
I am so grateful to all of you! Parkway has blessed me beyond belief and I am so thankful to be your school principal.
November Family Calendar
Pick up and Drop off Reminders
- Drop off starts at 7:15am. Please do not let your child out of your car before then. This is a safety concern, as nobody is supervising students before 7:15am.
- Pick up starts at 3:00pm and ends at 3:20pm. If you are late, you will have to sign your child out inside of the building.
Lunch Visitor Reminder
When you join your child for lunch, only your child may eat with you. Students may not invite friends to join them at the parent lunch table.
Give a Staff Member a Shout Out~ It Means the World!
We want to give all our parents and community members the opportunity to RECOGNIZE SOMEONE here at Parkway or in LISD. We have so many wonderful staff members that make a difference in your child's life, and they would love to hear from YOU!
It is super easy, just click the link below and let someone know you RECOGNIZE them!
Staff Quiet Hours
For our staff to best serve your children, it is important that they also take care of themselves. I have been using a book titled 180 Days of Self Care for Busy Educators to facilitate some self care activities among the staff.
One way I am encouraging the staff to take care of themselves is to set quiet hours. I share this with all of you so you will know that staff will respond to your emails and Dojo messages during school hours and it may be the next day before they respond to you if a message is sent after hours. Our school hours are 7:15-3:45.
Counselor's Corner
Don’t forget to wear your college shirt on Tuesday, November 14!

Texas Reading Challenge
Kinder-2nd Grade
Texas 2X2 Reading Challenge
Students received their reading challenge this week if your family would like to participate. They can read the 20 fiction/non-fiction books on the list and bring it back to me for a library treasure box. We have the books in our library but they are checked out a lot. So you can also find them at public libraries. Just a fun way to enjoy some books together and read some new things!
3-5th Grade Reading Challenge-Bluebonnet Reading Challenge
They have been working on this since the beginning of the school year and I already have lots of participants! This challenge is for students to choose 5 of the 20 books to read. If they read 5 they get to vote for their favorite in January and come to the Bluebonnet Party in February.
Library Storybook Pumpkin Patch
We are growing a storybook pumpkin patch, and
we would love if your family would like to help! To grow our patch we need students to decorate a pumpkin to look like one of their
favorite book characters, and bring it to school for display!
**No REAL Pumpkins!**
(we don’t want rotting pumpkins in the library)
•Purchase a plastic/fake pumpkin that is NO larger in size than a basketball.
•Think of your favorite book and design your pumpkin based on your favorite character from that book.
•Gather your decorating supplies. Acrylic paints or permanent markers work best. Watercolors tend to run, and spray paint will gradually dissolve the pumpkin. You can add materials, like yarn, buttons, wiggly eyes, etc.
Participation is completely voluntary. This is not a contest.
Have fun and be creative!
You can bring your pumpkin to the library as soon
as it is ready! I will keep them on display until Thanksgiving.
