Parking Lot Drop-Off and Pick-Up
Your cooperation in making our parking lot drop-off and pick-up procedures safe and efficient is greatly appreciated. Please review our top 8 tips below and thank you for your commitment to the safety of our students and the entire Viking community.
1. Drive Slowly and Responsibly: First and foremost, please drive slowly and responsibly within and around the school premises. This ensures the well-being of our students, staff, and fellow Viking families. Always be mindful not to block crosswalks, and remember that students and pedestrians have the right of way.
2. Proper Flow of Traffic: To maintain a smooth and orderly flow of traffic, please refrain from entering the parking lot through the exit. Doing so can lead to accidents and confusion for staff, drivers, and students leaving campus.
3. Pull Forward: When arriving at the drop-off/pick-up point, please pull all the way forward before coming to a stop. This small action significantly helps reduce congestion on Tapo Street.
4. Handicap Parking and Blue Curbs: Please do not park in designated handicap parking spaces, including blue curbs, unless you have a valid handicap placard or license plate.
5. Yellow Curb: The yellow curb is designated for loading and unloading purposes only, not for parking. We kindly request your cooperation in ensuring that this area remains accessible at all times. During school hours, we have experienced instances where students needing to be dropped off or picked up, as well as deliveries, are unable to access the yellow curb due to parked cars occupying the space for extended periods of time.
5. Red Curbs: The Simi Valley Police Department (SVPD) has asked us to remind everyone that you cannot drop off or park along any red curb. This includes dropping students off on Tapo Street along the red curb by the stairs. Red curbs are marked for safety reasons to maintain clear visibility for drivers and to ensure that emergency vehicles have unobstructed access to the area.
6. Avoid Shopping Plaza: Please refrain from using the shopping plaza located at the corner of Tapo Street and Township as a pick-up or loitering area. This area is intended for customers to access stores and dining establishments and does not provide supervision for our students. Valley View staff are stationed solely on the school campus for student supervision and are not present at offsite locations.
7. Alternative Pick-Up Locations: Our back gates on Walnut (backfield) and Township (baseball field) are open before and after school for additional drop-off and pick-up. Please consider using these alternative locations to help alleviate congestion in the main parking lot.
8. Student Safety: We kindly request that you discuss with your child the importance of walking to and from school safely. Emphasize the importance of staying on sidewalks, using crosswalks, and respecting others' property or places of business. This includes refraining from damaging plants or engaging in other disruptive behaviors while walking to or from their destination. If your child skateboards, rides a bike, or uses a scooter to commute, please ensure they wear proper safety gear and adhere to all city traffic laws.
Your commitment to these guidelines and safety measures is essential in creating a secure and nurturing environment for our students. We appreciate your patience during the first few weeks as families familiarize themselves with our drop-off and pick-up procedures. Please review the image below for the correct flow of traffic in the parking lot, and thank you for your cooperation in ensuring the safety of our Viking community.

AERIES - Data Conformation
Simi Valley Unified District will be utilizing the Aeries computer system again this year for your child’s academic progress, as well as health, contact information and communication. It is required that all families complete the data confirmation in the Aeries portal before school begins on Thursday, August 15, 2024.
NOTE: When updating contact information, it would be helpful to use a cell phone number as the primary number. This will allow you to receive the text messages the school sends out. If you need assistance logging into the Aeries Parent Portal, our school office will reopen on July 29th and you can give us a call then at 805-520-6820.
SVUSD Breakfast & Lunch Program
SVUSD will continue to provide FREE meals for the 2024-2025 school year. One breakfast and lunch per day will be available to our Viking students at no charge.
The former "snack bar" windows will be open as an express lane and serving the following:
Mondays: Pizza (Cheese & Pepperoni)
Tuesdays: Breaded Chicken Filet Sandwiches (Plain & Spicy)
Wednesdays: Steakburgers (with & without cheese)
Thursdays: Chicken & Rice Bowls (alternating Orange and Teriyaki each week)
Fridays: Domino's Pizza (Cheese & Pepperoni)
Each "snack bar" window will serve the same item per day along with carrot sticks, sliced apples, and choice of milk for a National School Lunch Program compliant meal. All other lunch options will still be available for students through the cafeteria line. The a la carte/snacks like chips, cookies, water, etc. will be offered as well.
Menus will be live in August on SVUSD's Child Nutrition website, as well as additional information regarding the National School Lunch Program, nutrition facts, and general information/inquiries. All meals will be free for students (limited to one breakfast and one lunch). Students wanting an additional lunch or breakfast will be charged for the second meal: $4.25 (lunch) or $2.75 (breakfast).
ATTENDANCE is IMPORTANT
As you prepare for the upcoming school year, we want to remind you of the importance of good attendance for your child's academic success. Please call the office if your child is absent to prevent truancy. Absences not cleared within 5 days automatically become truancies. Valley View's 24-hour attendance line is 805-520-6820, option 2 or extension 1320. Additionally, please help your child avoid tardies; being on time is crucial for effective classroom learning.
