The Lockport Lock Tenders
Community Volunteerism Opportunities
Share the Unique History of Lockport with Others!
Lockport City School District staff have been invited to form a Lockport Lock Tenders Team to operate the 19th Century Erie Canal Flight of Five Locks on Saturdays in July, August, and September from 11am to 1pm. This time coincides with the popular Lockport Community Farmer's Market, held on Canal Street, and is visited regularly by local residents and out-of-towners alike. The LCSD Team will share this duty with other volunteer Lock Tender Teams from the area (so you wouldn't be volunteering every Saturday).
Volunteering as a Lockport Lock Tender is a great way to participate in Lockport's history and get to know the community. It is also an excellent team-building experience. David Kinyon, Locks Heritage District Corporation Chairman, and Dave Chatt, Lock Tenders Coordinator, will be available via Google Meet on April 19th at 4:30pm to share more information about the Lockport Lock Tenders and answer any questions. Once a team is formed, in-person lock operation trainings will be scheduled by Dave Chatt; he and our own Board Trustee Ed Sandell will provide the training.
