Farewell to staff
In 1991, I was 26 years old, had been married a year, and had no children. I also began working at Deerfield Elementary as a fifth and sixth grade teacher. Fast forward 28 years. I’m now much older (you do the math), have 2 grown children, and will soon be a grandma. I have thoroughly enjoyed my years here as a sixth-grade teacher, fifth-grade teacher, second-grade teacher, and librarian. I have worked with so many wonderful families. Working in the library has allowed me to work with many, many Deerfield students their entire elementary career. It has been especially meaningful to work with those second-generation Deerfield children. Meeting former students again as parents has been one of my favorite parts of remaining in one place for so long. I have also had the privilege of working alongside several former students.
I’m not sure what comes next. I’ll be looking for something to do. I plan on relaxing this summer. My goal is to walk into Target in July or August and not panic when the school supplies are set out. I am sure I will see you out and about. Please say hello if you see me. I will certainly miss the Deerfield community. If you are in the building before the end of the year, please stop by and let me say goodbye.
Thank you for all of the greetings each morning as you drop your students off. Thank you for all of the wonderful children you’ve sent my way over the years. Have a wonderful summer, and please be sure to read a book!

Dear Deerfield families,
It is bittersweet that I inform you I will not be back to teach all the crazy fun kids at Deerfield. My family is on an adventure to Nebraska where my fiancée Julia is from. For the past 9 years I have had so much fun seeing all the Deerfield students grow up from kindergarten to 5th grade. It has been a pleasure, and a wonderful ride. Julia and I both have found jobs, thank goodness. We will be moving to Kearney, Nebraska closer to family and many cousins for our daughter Paisley to play with. Thanks for the memories and letting me teach your children.
Sincerely,
Jason Bott

Class Placements for 2019-20
Deerfield Elementary uses academic, behavioral and social-emotional data in a collaborative process among teachers to place students in class sections for the following school year. Our goal is to achieve the best possible balance for each class within a grade level. As a reminder Deerfield does not accept requests for specific teachers, nor are students automatically assigned to a teacher the family has had in the past. Additionally, we will not accept requests for specific classmates.
However, you may provide us with information about your child for our consideration in this process by completing the Learner Profile form below. The information you provide to us is appreciated and serves as supplemental information in our process to achieve the desired balance.
Field Day
Dear Deerfield Parents,
It is about that time for field day again! The fifth graders will be running the stations in the morning session and the afternoon session. Field ay will be on May 10th. There is no make-up date.
The kids will be able to roam from station to station on their own during the 90 minutes they will be outside. Half the fifth graders will run the stations in the morning, while the other half will participate. The fifth graders roles will reverse during the afternoon session. The fifth graders running a station will stay at that station for the entire session. We will have 20 or more stations for the students.
Morning session 9:15 – 10:45 am
- All 4th graders
- All kindergartners
- All 5th graders
- 1st Bland and Chappell
Afternoon session 1:00 – 2:30 pm
- All 5th graders
- All 3rd graders
- All 2nd graders
- 1st Heller and Moser
If you would like to volunteer, please email me at jbott@usd497.org . I would prefer if you could help all day, however, I know all of us are busy this time of year, so if you can only help in the morning or afternoon that is fine! I do not ask any volunteers to deal with behaviors. That will be my job. I want you to have fun and just be an adult presence. Let’s have a wonderful field day.
Thank you so much,
Jason Bott
