April 2025
April is Autism Awareness Month
April 2nd is Autism Awareness Day
Wear blue on April 2nd for World Autism Awareness Day, a day dedicated to increasing understanding, acceptance, and support for individuals with autism. At CWE, we believe in fostering a school community where every child feels valued, included, and celebrated for who they are.
Autism is a spectrum, which means it can look different from person to person. For some children, it may be more visible in the way they communicate, interact, or process the world around them. For others, their challenges may not be as noticeable, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t there. Every child with autism experiences the world in their own unique way, and all deserve understanding, patience, and kindness.
As we recognize this important day, we encourage families to have open conversations at home about neurodiversity, empathy, and inclusion. Many children may not fully understand what autism is or why some of their peers may communicate, learn, or experience the world differently. By talking with them, we can help build a generation that embraces differences and leads with kindness.
Here are a few simple ways to guide these conversations:
💙 Teach them that differences make us stronger. Everyone has unique strengths and challenges, and that’s something to be celebrated.
💙 Encourage understanding. If they notice a peer who may struggle with loud noises, has different ways of expressing themselves, or enjoys routines, remind them that these differences are part of what makes each person special.
💙 Lead with kindness. A simple smile, an invitation to play, or a moment of patience can make a world of difference to a classmate or teammate who might feel left out.
We also ask families to be mindful of the children around them—whether at school, on a sports team, or in social settings. A little kindness and inclusion can make a big impact on a child who may feel different.
For resources to help guide your discussions, visit Autism Speaks or The Autism Society.
Thank you for helping us create a school community where respect, empathy, and kindness shine.
