CHEERLEADING
We are excited to offer Cheerleading beginning in the 2025-26 school year!
IHMS Cheerleading squad tryouts will be held at the beginning of the school year. Student-athletes will be able to try out for three squads. Students will only try out once to be considered for their squad(s) of choice. The different squads will allow students to still participate in other sports, if they choose. For example, a student could play volleyball and basketball then potentially cheer during the other basketball season.
1st quarter Cheer Squad- Football season
2nd quarter Cheer Squad- Girls Basketball season
3rd quarter Cheer Squad- Boys Basketball season
As Cheerleading was recently approved for next school year, some details remain to be determined, including hiring of personnel. More information will be shared as these details are settled.

SCOOTER SAFETY
First and foremost, I would like to tell you all how much of a joy and honor it has been serving as the SRO here at Indian Hills Middle School. The students are always a joy to interact with, and I have learned a lot since taking this position.
As the school year comes to an end and the weather gets increasingly warmer, I know we will have more and more children out and about. Recently, we have had an uptick in scooter/e-bike complaints and have come across a fair number of children riding in an unsafe manner. Our officers at Prairie Village try and respond accordingly, and when we see potential safety issues, we prefer to educate the children rather than reprimand. With this being said, we encourage parents to speak with their children about E-scooter/E-bike safety. Here are some talking points to discuss:
- Maintain a reasonable speed and wear a helmet at all times.
- Follow traffic laws when you are riding on the roadway.
- During limited visibility, use a headlight or wear reflective clothing or both.
- Be aware of your surroundings, such as vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
These are just basic talking points, but again, I encourage you all to stress to your children about riding in a safe manner. I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable summer, and as always, do not hesitate to reach out to the Prairie Village Police with any questions or concerns.
Respectfully,
Det. Flores

SUMMER CAMP OPPORTUNITIES
EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS
In 2019, the State of Kansas and the State Fire Marshal modified the number of Fire, Tornado, and Crisis drills that schools are required to conduct throughout the school year (four fire drills, two tornado drills, and three crisis drills). Students and staff are trained periodically throughout the year on various emergency preparedness protocols.
The safety of students and staff at Indian Hills is of utmost importance. Drills are an important step in the process to test system communication and ensure everyone knows what to do in case of fire, tornado, or other unpredictable emergency situations.
This week, IHMS conducted a crisis drill with the assistance of the Prairie Village Police Department. The drill was to practice our response to an event in the surrounding community that may impact the safety of our campus. The main idea is that no one enters or exits the building, and the exterior is secured during this time. We appreciate the seriousness with which our staff and students approach emergency preparedness. Thanks for helping make Indian Hills a safe place for our students to learn and our staff to work each day.
We have now completed all nine required drills for the school year.
