Responsibilty's mantra for this month is 'I am the architect of my own destiny!'
During September, students are expected to exhibit responsibility when they persevere, consistently give their personal best, exercise self-control and self-discipline, take ownership of their choices, engage in thoughtful decision-making, and consider the consequences of their actions.
September's MYP IB Learner Profile Trait
For the month of September, our focus within the IB Learner Profile for MYP students is on being a "COMMUNICATOR."
Our MYP communicators will be encouraged to express themselves confidently and creatively in more than one language and in many ways. They will collaborate effectively, listening carefully to the perspectives of other individuals and groups. MYP students will be invited to reflect on their actions and post instances where they have demonstrated this trait inside their classrooms.
Covid-19 Protocols
Effective September 1st, when someone has a positive test result for the virus they should follow the FLDOE guidelines that require them to stay home for five (5) days. Student absences should be reported using the following procedure:
- submit your child's absence via the Absence Reporting Form, which can be found in both the PowerSchool Parent Portal and the PowerSchool Mobile App.

Field Day Shirts
If you are ordering Field Day shirts for your child(ren) and family members, please submit your order and payment by Friday September 1st, 2023. Orders submitted after this date will not arrive in time for our Boosterthon events in October.
Mandatory Required Forms
If you have not already done so, please return your completed 23-24 Acknowledgement form (that has been posted on our website and available in the link below). The form should be returned to your child's homeroom teacher (within 48 hours of receiving it). We appreciate your attention and support to adhere to our policies.
The Family Technology Program Guide has been updated for 2023-2024 and posted on our campus homepage, at the top of our Special Announcements area. The homepage listing will be available for Quarter 1, but the link is permanently on the "Online Resources" page of our campus website. Our PPK8 families can access the guide by clicking on the link provided or via your child's Google Classroom or Teacher website.
Office Assistance
Our offices are open daily (Monday - Friday) for telephone assistance and in-person assistance from 8:45a.m. until 1:45p.m, with the exception of our early release days when in-person assistance is only available until 10:45a.m. On Tuesday September 19th, 2023, there will be limited office assistance after 1pm, due to mandatory attendance for our staff training sessions. We appreciate your understanding and support. Office assistance will resume as normal on Wednesday September 20th, 2023.
Early Release - September 19
Mark your calendars for our first early-release day for students on Tuesday, September 19th! On this day, K-5 students will be dismissed at 11:15 a.m., and MYP students will be dismissed at 12:15 p.m. Late fees will apply for any student not picked up on time. $1 per minute fee will be assessed and posted to a late pick-up student's account.
Health Screenings
During the month of September, our school will be conducting required health screenings for eligible students in Kindergarten, Grade 1,3 and 6/MYP Y1. These screenings will cover vision, hearing, scoliosis, and BMI assessments. PPK8 families that chose to 'opt out' of these health screenings during our 23-24 student registration will not be screened.
Extra-Curricular Activity Restrictions
Student participation for upcoming events, clubs, and field trips, will be restricted in extra-curricular activities if the child has an outstanding fee balance or the family did not meet the previous school year's service hour committment.
Bus Transportation
Inquiries or concerns regarding bus transportation should be emailed to bus.attendance@franklin-academy.org for assistance. Our team is working diligently to promptly address all questions and concerns to ensure a seamless transportation experience.

Patriot Day is observed in the United States on September 11th each year to commemorate the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Patriot Day is typically marked by moments of silence, memorial ceremonies, flag displays, and acts of kindness and service. It also serves as a reminder of the enduring commitment to the principles of freedom, democracy, and resilience in the face of adversity.
Students are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue attire as a symbol of remembrance.
Afterschool Clubs
Quarter 1 Clubs are scheduled to begin on Monday September 11th, 2023, for all eligible students. Q1 clubs will conclude on Friday October 20th, 2023.

On Thursday, September 14th, Fox-Mar photographers will capture individual photos of
all students. These photos will be available for purchase (please refer to the linked picture flyer)
and will also be featured in the yearbook and on student ID cards. Students are required
to be in their official uniforms for these pictures; PE uniforms are not permissible.
In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month celebrated from September 15 to October 15, all Florida K-12 students are invited to participate in academic and creative contests based on this year's theme: “Celebrating Florida’s Hispanic Heroes and their Contributions to Freedom.”
Student Art Contest for Grades K-3: The Hispanic Heritage Month Art Contest is open to all Kindergarten through third-grade students in Florida. Participating students will submit original, two-dimensional artwork based on this year's theme.
Student Essay Contest for Grades 4-12: The Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest is open to all Florida students in grades 4-12.

Mark your calendars for the Start with Hello Week, taking place from September 18th to 23rd! Start with Hello Week is a national youth violence prevention program organized by the Sandy Hook Promise organization. This initiative encourages students to create a culture of inclusion and connectedness to prevent social isolation and promote safety in schools and communities. It empowers young individuals to cultivate a culture of inclusion and connectedness within their school, youth organization, and community.
Fire Prevention Week Poster Contest
The International Day of Peace (or World Peace Day) celebrated annually on September 21 is devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. At a time when war and violence often monopolize our news cycles, the International Day of Peace is an inspiring reminder of what we can create together. This year's theme is "Actions for Peace: Our ambition for the #GlobalGoals."
