A Message From Mrs. Parduhn
We had such a great turnout for the PTA Trunk or Treat night. It was great to see so many students and families! The weather was great Friday night, however, we are beginning to feel a chill in the air as we continue to move toward winter. Please be sure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather as they are outside in the morning and during recess.
In music class, our students are preparing songs for the Winter Concert on Friday, December 13. Regular school attendance is essential to ensure they have ample practice time, which will help them feel confident and ready to perform. When students miss practice days, it can lead to uncertainty and anxiety about the performance. Please support our students in getting ready by encouraging consistent attendance. To help reduce anxiety, students who have missed several school days and are not fully prepared for the performance may have an alternate way to participate.
Success For All
We have reached the end of the 1st quarter - and we have much to celebrate! Our students have been working so hard to grow as readers, thinkers, and team members. Evidence of this growth is coming in as we collect our end of quarter data. You will receive a SFA progress report for your child when you attend Parent / Teacher Conferences and along with your child’s report card.
As we head into the 2nd quarter, adjustments will be made to reading groups based on that data we have collected. A letter will be sent home letting you know when we have launched our reading groups. Contact information for SFA reading teachers will be shared in that letter once again. Please remember to check in with your child’s reading teacher if you have any questions or concerns.
And as always, I am happy to connect with you if I can be of any help!

Did You Know?
Monroe School has approximately 90 students riding 5 different buses home?! Our bus supervisors do an amazing job making sure all the students get to where they need to be at the end of the day. We understand emergencies can arise. If you have a transportation change we ask that you call it in as soon as possible to both the office as well as message the teacher. Late afternoon changes may lead to difficulty in reaching the necessary people. For example, fifth grade is in specials at the end of the day and do not return to their classroom or a class may be outside for recess. When you give notification early enough everyone can be safely where they need to be!
Thank you for your help with this matter.
Mr. Hang

Notes From Our Monroe School Counselor
Being an Upstander in Bullying Situations:
Our school is dedicated to nurturing our children’s growth and well-being and we must unite to address the important issue of bullying. Empowering our kids to stand up against bullying not only creates a safer environment but also fosters empathy and resilience. Here are some ways you can help your child become an upstander:
1. **Open Communication**
Encourage your child to talk openly about their experiences. Make it clear that they can share anything with you without fear of judgment. Listen actively and validate their feelings.
2. **Teach Empathy**
Help your child understand the impact of bullying on others. Discuss different perspectives and the importance of kindness. Engaging in community service or activities that promote teamwork can also build empathy.
3. **Model Positive Behavior**
Children often imitate adult behavior. Demonstrate how to resolve conflicts peacefully and treat others with respect. Your actions set a powerful example.
4. **Encourage Action**
Empower your child to take action if they witness bullying. This could include speaking up, offering support to the victim, or reporting the incident to a trusted adult. Reinforce that it’s okay to seek help.
5. **Promote Digital Citizenship**
With the rise of cyberbullying, it’s essential to educate your child about responsible online behavior. Discuss the importance of kindness and respect in digital interactions.
Together, we can cultivate a culture of kindness and resilience in our school community. Thank you for your continued support in creating a safe and inclusive environment for all our children.
How Parents Can Help With Our School Wide Goals.
Increase Reading Homework:
Currently we have 40.5% of our students completing the reading homework. We are trying to increase that number 45%. Please continue to read with your children and have them turn in their homework sheets. This reading significantly helps with their academic progress and confidence. If you need help getting this completed please reach out to the teacher or our counselor.
Decreasing Tardiness:
Being on time for school impacts your student. At the beginning of the day, students are working on their "Getting along together skills" and starting their reading class. Being there is so important to their reading success. Thank you for getting your students here on time. If something is making it difficult for you to get here on time please reach out to the teacher or counselor.
Positive Student Culture:
Students are working on earning an extra recess for being great problem solvers on the playground. One of their tools from "getting along together" is Stop and Stay Cool. When students are practicing this skill they get a ticket to put in the jar. We are almost there! You can encourage your student to practice this skill at home also when they are getting frustrated. Thank you for helping teach our students to regulate their emotions.
