Congrats, Apex Learning EOG Challenge Winners!
Congratulations to all students, teachers, and schools who worked hard during the Apex Learning EOG Challenge from March 4 to May 10, 2024!
The challenge used the Apex Learning software to prepare students for upcoming EOGs! Students with the highest points gained were recognized as winners!
Congratulations to Union Chapel Elementary for being recognized as the Overall Apex Learning EOG Challenge Winner. Union Chapel Elementary received the Apex Learning EOG Tutorials Challenge Trophy. Union Chapel Elementary 6th Grade Teachers are Wesley Jacobs, Tammy Sessoms, and Tray Smith. The principal is Antonio Wilkins.
PSRC Superintendent Dr. Freddie Williamson named 2024-2025 Regional Superintendent of the Year for the Sandhills Region
The Public Schools of Robeson County’s Superintendent has been named the 2024-2025 Regional Superintendent of the Year for the Sandhills Region (Region 4).
Dr. Freddie Williamson, the 2024-2025 Regional Superintendent of the Year for the Sandhills Region, will move on to the state-level competition for the A. Craig Phillips State Superintendent of the Year Award along with the remaining seven region representatives.
“I am grateful for this opportunity to represent the Sandhills Region as the 2024-2025 Regional Superintendent of the Year,” said PSRC Superintendent Dr. Freddie Williamson.
“Leadership matters and it has been my honor to pour into the lives of others throughout my career. I believe investing in others matters and it takes everyone working together with a common goal to achieve student success. I am grateful to God for this opportunity to continue this great calling on my life and to represent Region 4,” Williamson said.
PSRC celebrates retirees, educators at recognition ceremony
The Public Schools of Robeson County held a ceremony recently to recognize retirees, national board certification recipients, teachers of the year, teacher assistants of the year and the district-level beginning teacher, teacher assistant, teacher and principal of the year.
The school district named Foris Allen the 2024-2025 PSRC Teacher Assistant of Year, Sarah Griffin-Greene the 2024-2025 PSRC Teacher of the Year, Alisa Hammonds the 2024-2025 PSRC Beginning Teacher of the Year, and Pembroke Elementary School Principal Joanna Hunt the 2024-2025 PSRC Principal of the Year.
2 local schools to welcome new principals in 2024-2025 academic year
Two local schools will welcome new principals in the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.
The decision was made at the May 14 PSRC Board of Education meeting as board members approved the new principal assignments for Tanglewood and W.H. Knuckles elementary schools individually following a closed-door session.
Tanglewood Elementary School
Dr. Jessica Floyd was named the principal of Tanglewood Elementary School effective July 1, 2024. She will step into the role previously held by Interim Principal Melinda Sellers since her appointment effective Jan. 2.
“My goals are to create an exemplar school focused on growing the whole child and building capacity with all staff,” Dr. Floyd said. “My vision includes building a school where students come to learn and grow in all areas and staff come to learn and grow professionally through continual coaching and learning cycles.”
W.H. Knuckles Elementary School
Dr. Renee Steele will take on the principalship at W. H. Knuckles Elementary effective July 1, 2024. Steele will step into the role left vacant by the retirement of Lisa Troy.
“I want to build collaborative relationships with the faculty, staff, students, parents and the community,” Dr. Steele said. “My focus as an instructional leader will be to support, develop and grow teachers which will positively impact the social, emotional and academic success of the students at W.H. Knuckles Elementary School.”
LHS senior receives Ann Marie Gentry Memorial Scholarship
The Ann Marie Gentry Memorial Scholarship was awarded recently to a Lumberton Senior High School senior.
Aloña Hanna was the recipient of the $1,500 scholarship given in honor of Ann Marie Gentry, the late wife of PSRC School Board Member William Gentry.
Summer Meals Program kicks off on June 17, One-Day Weekly Meal Package Pickup Program begins on June 20
PSRC Child Nutrition Services will be offering summer meals starting June 17, 2024. In addition, PSRC is offering an option for weekly meal boxes to be picked up on Thursdays from June 20 - August 1, 2024. Littlefield Middle School recognized as Imagine Nation School of Excellence
Littlefield Middle School has been recognized as an Imagine Nation School of Excellence by Imagine Learning, the largest provider of digital curriculum solutions in the U.S.
Parents, please complete the Digital Device Access Survey by June 30!
The purpose of this Digital Learning Dashboard Out-of-School Digital Device Access Survey is to fulfill session law § 115C-102.9 calling for the collection and reporting of data regarding all students' access to digital devices and internet access at home.
This information will be used to help target areas of need and ensure that all NC students have adequate access to devices and the internet to access learning. Please note that the information gathered will be kept private and confidential.

PSRC high school seniors encouraged to complete the FAFSA
The Public Schools of Robeson County encourages students to take advantage of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid now. Completing this application is the first step towards unlocking free funding and scholarships to assist students in their college journeys.
The district will host a final workshop at the end of May to assist any families that might require assistance so check with your student's high school counselor.
“We encourage our students to embrace the opportunities provided by scholarships and grants by completing the FAFSA,” said PSRC Superintendent Dr. Freddie Williamson.
“By doing so, students can unlock a world of new possibilities and opportunities as they pursue their dream career by attending college,” Williamson added.
In order to complete the FAFSA, students should visit https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa. For additional help in completing the form, students should contact their school counselor.

Parent Survey: Special Education now open until July 1!
What is the Parent Survey?
This is an annual survey of parents of children receiving special education. It is an opportunity to report how well your school system includes you in the IEP process and the education of your child.
Your response matters!
Your response lets the State and your district know how well they are doing or how they can improve.
Your response is anonymous.
Survey Specifics
The survey is open between April 1 and July 1, 2024. If you don’t have a computer or smart phone, you can request a paper copy from your district.

PSRC Early College graduates 59 students
The Public Schools of Robeson County Early College High School held its commencement ceremony on Friday, May 17, 2024, honoring 59 graduates.
The PSRC ECHS Class of 2024 proudly walked across the stage on Friday in the A.D. Lewis Auditorium of Robeson Community College, leaving their high school days behind and stepping into their bright futures ahead.

PSRC Board of Education Member Terry Locklear to participate in North Carolina Hunt State Policy Fellows Program
Terry Locklear, who serves as the District 4 representative on the Public Schools of Robeson County Board of Education, anticipates participating in the program. Locklear serves as Interim Director of the Office of Online Learning at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
“I’m grateful for this opportunity to develop the knowledge needed to lead on education reform and discuss policy levers related to Education in North Carolina,” Locklear said.
“I look forward to collaborating with leaders from NC, learning from others from around the nation, and bringing those insights back to share with my colleagues at The Public School of Robeson County. I cannot express how thankful I am to the Hunt Institute for inviting me to participate in this excellent program,” he added.
Graham receives top honor in Leverage Leadership Institute Fellowship
The Public Schools of Robeson County’s Relay-Leverage Leadership Coach has received the highest honor for her work in the 2023-2024 cohort of the Relay Graduate School of Education’s Leverage Leadership Institute Fellowship.
PSRC Relay-Leverage Leadership Coach Amanda Graham has been recognized as a Platinum Plus Leader for hard work and dedication in the Relay Graduate School of Education’s Leverage Leadership Institute Fellowship.
“This means that her leadership work with her leaders was rated by our LLI team as exceptional in five of the levers of leadership: Observation and Feedback, Leading Weekly Data Meetings, Leading Planning Meetings, Leading Equity Centered Culture, Data Driven Instruction, and Professional Development,” said Kathleen Sullivan, Leverage Leadership Institute Senior Partner.
“Only a small fraction of every cohort earns this distinction, and it means that leaders in and beyond our professional community will be traveling to see her and learn from her in action in years to come. We wish her a hearty congratulations and excitement for all the learning and growing that will spring from Amanda's exceptional leadership,” Sullivan added.
NCAE names Peterson Elementary Principal Brian Freeman as “Principal of the Year”
The North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) today honored Brian Freeman, Principal of Peterson Elementary in Red Springs, with its “Principal of the Year” Award.
Principal Freeman was honored during a school presentation on May 14, 2024 and during the Robeson County School Board Meeting that evening.
“It’s a great honor to be recognized as NCAE Principal of the Year,” Freeman said.
“The work is very personal. I want the kids in my neighborhood to be successful,” he said. “I have a great opportunity to make a difference in my own community and I feel like these kids are counting on me to lead them on the path to academic success.”
Join our Parental Advisory Committee!
This is your invitation to join our District Parental Advisory Committee, affectionately known as the "Robeson County P.A.C."
Our Parental Advisory Committee will represent the voice of PSRC parents/caregivers and students in our district. Collectively and individually, this committee will act as a sounding board and resource for our district's initiative to build and maintain family-school partnerships in alignment with the strategic plan and our Title I Parent and Family Engagement Plan.
The role of the committee is to provide advice and assistance to the district regarding any matter relating to programs and services in order to help the district attain its goal of providing all students with the best education possible. It will also serve to inform, encourage, and provide opportunities for parents and community members to be involved in the planning and improvement process.

Planetarium to offer free shows on June 22!
The Robeson Planetarium and Science Center will host a free public program on Saturday, June 22nd, at noon and 1:30 p.m. The program is all about the upcoming Europa Clipper mission.

Please save the date for the Annual PSRC Back to School Event on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at the Southeastern Agricultural Center (Farmers Market) located at 1027 US-74 ALT, Lumberton, NC 28358! The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and feature free backpacks with school supplies and a chance to meet your child's school principals! You don't want to miss this exciting event!
Back to School Immunization Information
Parents, please take note of the following back to school immunization information.
By law, students are given 30 days after the start of school to complete the NC State Immunization and Health Assessment Requirements. Students will not be allowed to attend school after the date until the immunizations and/or health assessment requirements have been met. The absences will be coded "unexcused.”
Kindergarten students must have a completed immunization record and a health assessment turned in by the date. Additionally, students in seventh grade must receive the Tdap and Meningococcal vaccines.
All 12th graders are required to have received a second dose of the Meningococcal vaccine. This also applies to students who transition to senior status after the first semester.
Any new student to North Carolina Public Schools must have an NC Health Assessment completed within the first 30 calendar days from enrollment.
