Huskies Have HEART Newsletter
November 24, 2024
Greetings Central Heights Students and Families,
Monday, November 25th is a B-Day! Remember, there is no school 11/27-11/29. When students return to school on Monday, December 2nd - it will be a B-day again. There will not be a newsletter on Sunday, December 1st. We hope you all have an enjoyable fall break!
Every student at Central Heights has the opportunity to participate in Math Olympiad which consists of 5 math contests for Middle School students throughout the school year. Math Olympiad provides opportunities for students to engage in creative problem-solving which develops a child’s ability to reason, be logical, be resourceful, and occasionally be ingenious. The questions for Math Olympiad are very difficult and students who work through them and persevere should be celebrated! This should be viewed as a challenge and an opportunity to grow. Contest papers will be passed back and answers will be provided on Ms. Boguszewski’s Google Classroom (code:3cjl6b7) the week after each contest is taken.
Get off your phone!! It’s like you are addicted!!
The Sun Prairie Wellness Coalition is hosting a screening of the film Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age. Registration is required and once an individual or group registers, they will have a two-week window, from December 1st through 15th, to view it in your home whenever you want!
Screenagers explores parental struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction and offers solutions to help kids find balance. Registration is required and once an individual or group registers, they will have a two-week window, from December 1st through 15th, to view it.
Please watch this video presentation that was co-created with our School Resource Officers. Parents/Caregivers who attended this presentation in person in the past asked that we create a video to share with a broader audience as they found many of the tips helpful. In the video, we outline some recommendations for monitoring your student’s social media accounts. We highly encourage you to build in time on a regular basis to talk with your student about their phone use habits.
Middle School Sports Game Day Reminders: Just a reminder that all Sun Prairie students must be accompanied by their own caregiver at CHMS games. Games are not drop-off events--the caregiver must stay for the duration. Unfortunately, we will turn kids away who arrive without a caregiver. Seating is limited in the small gym--we will give seating priority to the elderly/adults/families.
Check out the November Elective Newsletter to see what your student is working on in their elective classes.
Take a minute to read the Cafeteria Corner update to learn more about how student lunches have more fresh produce options!
Message from Kobussen:
We hope you’re having a great school year! We wanted to take a moment to remind everyone of
an important safety policy regarding our school buses. For the safety and well-being of all
students, parents/caregivers are not permitted to board the school bus for any reason.
We understand that sometimes it might seem convenient, but keeping the bus environment
secure and on schedule is our top priority. If you need to speak with your child or address
something related to transportation, please contact your school principal or Brinda Thompson at
Kobussen Buses at (608) 825-8700, and they will be happy to assist you.
Thank you for your understanding and support in helping us maintain a safe and efficient ride for
all our students.
Each week, we update our announcements with student club information (dates/times/room numbers). In order to join a club, students just need to attend it. If they enjoy their time in the club the first night, we’ll get them ‘rostered’ to the club and it will show up on their schedule for after school activities (similar to how sports do). Click on this link for the latest information about our Central Heights clubs (Link is updated weekly).
Helping Your Student Grow in Their Reading Ability
We need all hands on deck to help your student continue to grow in their ability to read. See the Central Heights Library Conference Newsletter below or linked here in English, aquí en español, for context and resources for you to help you help your student establish a routine of reading at home.
Using Chromebooks at Home
As a parent / caregiver, you have the ability to restrict and monitor your student’s Chromebook use at home. See the directions on how to get started with Securly home below or at these links:
